Confirmed, I spoke with Help, and think there's value in having xim on the wiki. Philippe (WMF) 20:53, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Over the years I've been called THO and Helpy, but Help is a new abbreviation! :-) The Helpful One 20:55, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Stevie Benton

  • My name is Stevie Benton, newly appointed Communications Organiser for Wikimedia UK.
  • My e-mail address is Stevie.Benton(_AT_)wikimedia(_DOT_)org(_DOT_)uk and I'm an admin on the Wikimedia UK wiki (I think).
  • I'd like an account to be able to add my contact details to the Wikimedia UK section of the press room page please. Many thanks!

Hi Aaron, I'm not sure name wise whether this username should be User:Ahalfaker. Have you always used the username User:EpochFail as a Foundation contractor, or was it previously used as a volunteer account? Your entry on that staff page was in March of this year - was that when your contract started? The Helpful One 14:05, 17 May 2012 (UTC) [reply]
I'm not particular about what username I'd use. I regularly use my User:EpochFail as a volunteer account, rarely use User:AaronH (WMF) as my staff account and only use User:Ahalfaker for office stuff. If User:Ahalfaker would be more appropriate for wikimediafoundation.org, I'm happy with that. My most recent contract started in Nov. 2011, but I've been working for the foundation in various capacities since April 2011. --EpochFail (talk) 15:06, 21 May 2012 (UTC) [reply]

  • Project where I am an admin: n/a
  • My Email address: jmorgan(_AT_)wikimedia.org
  • Reason why I need an account: I am a research fellow (contractor) working for WMF with Siko Bouterse in Community Fellowships, Global Development. I'd like to fill out my wikimediafoundation.org profile. My history with the foundation is almost identical to EpochFail's. We were Summer of Research-ers together. My main account on Enwiki and Meta is w:User:Jtmorgan.
Hi there, I believe you need to ask Siko to organise an account for you, or did she send you here to request the account? The Helpful One 16:18, 21 May 2012 (UTC) [reply]
She didn't. I just saw that many of my peers had Foundation profiles, and wanted one of my very own! But I've emailed Siko to see what she says. Thanks! Jtmorgan (talk) 16:57, 21 May 2012 (UTC) [reply]
No problem, I think that Siko organises the accounts for the Fellows, so you should be able to make your own Foundation wiki profile very soon! :) The Helpful One 16:58, 21 May 2012 (UTC) [reply]
Since other Fellows have had their accounts created upon request, I've gone ahead and created it. PeterSymonds (talk) 17:55, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to you both! I tried to log in with my meta credentials, tho, and was not able to do so. I also haven't seen a confirmation email with a temp password. Where should I look for login credentials? Jtmorgan (talk) 20:41, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, you should have received a confirmation email, check spam? Just to confirm, is your email address jtmorgan@ or just jmorgan@? The Helpful One 20:43, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Just got it! Thanks again Jtmorgan (talk) 23:20, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think that's because Chip created another account for you, User:Jmorgan, can you please edit with whichever account you can login to, then I will ask someone to block the other account? If it's User:Jmorgan that you can login to, then the other username User:Jtmorgan can be renamed on foundation wiki so that you can "usurp" (reclaim) the username User:Jtmorgan, which I imagine is what you want. • Project where I am an admin: Meta-Wiki, es.wikibooks - formerly on eswiki and commons (non-controversial own resignations).
  • My Email address: If my request is approved I'll provide it privately.
  • Reason why I need an account: I'd like to request Foundation wiki access to help with maintenance and problem fixing when needed. I probably won't be the most active editor there if given access but I sometimes find mistakes like this, among others, which I could have fixed myself if I had the access. Another example is wmf:Terms of Use/es which is not synced with the source. I'm a steward since 2010. Best regards. — MA (audiencia) 15:16, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Reason why I need an account: Help translating the fundraising landing page for our chapter, mainly into german. --ThurnerRupert (talk) 22:05, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Oppose - Thanks for volunteering to translate! All translation work is actually done here on Meta-Wiki so that many people can collaborate and so that pages can be proofread before being published. Therefore, you do not need an account on the Foundation wiki to help with translations (and requests for accounts to translate will be denied). You can start translating right now by looking at the current Translation requests. Thanks again!  ono  22:49, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • This isn't actually a vote so Rupert please could you confirm that the sorts of pages you will be editing are similar to the ones that Charles requested (and obtained) an account for below? Best, Thehelpfulone 02:45, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
yes, same pages, different language. --ThurnerRupert (talk) 04:50, 27 December 2012 (UTC) [reply]

Not done. This is the page to request an account on the Wikimedia Foundation website, which is not open to normal editing. It is restricted because the content there generally only needs to be edited by those associated with the Wikimedia Foundation, especially considering it occasionally hosts some highly sensitive pages. You do not need an account there to contribute to other Wikimedia projects, but if you see anything amiss, please make use of Foundation wiki feedback. Those with the appropriate access can make the changes for you. Many thanks, PeterSymonds (talk) 20:03, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Reason why I need an account: I'm a member of the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki, so why not the Wikimedia Foundation? Please, Wikimedia, create an account for me.

ItsMeBrandonSky (talk) 17:08, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The requirements for getting an account in the Foundation wiki clearly states that you need to be an administrator, Foundation committee member or local chapter member to apply, which, from your reason and your SUL account, I'm guessing you are not. I'm thinking this request is ineligible for that reason. Pmlineditor (t · c · l) 17:14, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Not done. As Pmlineditor explains, the Wikimedia Foundation wiki is a restricted wiki which hosts some highly sensitive content. Account creation is therefore not automatic, and a high degree of trust and experience, along with a reason for needing to edit this wiki, before a request is considered. Please make use of Foundation wiki feedback if you see anything that should be edited or corrected. Many thanks for your understanding, PeterSymonds (talk) 17:36, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

      • My primary target for contribution is templates not translations but I can help with translations too. I think foundation wiki can greatly benefit from improvements to templates. Additionally I would update content relating to Vikimedya Türkiye (Wikimedia Turkey) but there is quite some time for that to be an important factor for my intended contribution. -- とある白い猫 chi? 21:07, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
        • Hi. Potential editing of the wiki for a proposed chapter isn't a sufficient reason to request an account. Translations are not done on the Foundation wiki as stated by Trijnstel above, all translations are done here on Meta using the Translate extension, this allows them to be reviewed by other users. They can then be published, that is, copying and pasting them from Meta-Wiki, attributing them properly, adjusting the pages to add/remove categories, templates, <!--comments --> etc. by experienced users and subsequently marked as published on Meta-Wiki. If something gets changed on Meta-Wiki, it can easily be reviewed and then the publishing process and checks will happen again. We have this workflow in place to ensure that we don't make mistakes when publishing to the Foundation's public site. Please can you be more specific with regards to what exactly you will be doing with templates? Thanks! The Helpful One 21:30, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There are many things that can be done, to give a perhaps good feel the wiki hardly any templates aside from the ones for donations. Templates help pages have a standard feel and give it the kind of professional look we would wish on the foundation wiki. I am not saying the site is unprofessional but there are style and formatting inconsistencies all over the place. Also templates can make updating multiple pages easier. Some things I think that may help:
          1. A more immediate interest of mine is wmf:Category:Resolutions which are rather messy. A navigation template can help sort them (for example chronologically and/or topically) on the bottom of each resolution page (without altering the actual content of the resolutions in any shape or form). Also the resolution pages themselves can be stylized through templates. For instance wmf:Resolution:Approval of Wikimedia UK looks rather boring to look at and this can be improved with templates.
          2. With parser functions I can even customize styles based on the content. Outdated translations can be marked (on a page not visible to the readers normally) pointing out the ones that need update based on the last update on the main (perhaps English version). This would particularly help with the migration task of translated content from translation requests to the wiki.
          3. Donation pages are difficult to navigate - the donator candidate may wish to see messages in a more orderly (non-random) fashion. This is implementable without removing or disrupting existing functionality.
          4. The main page does not make good use of templates. Some of the translations do not appear to discuss the same material (ex wmf:صفحهٔ اصلی which also seems to have rtl issues). Templates can be used to better "enforce" that same content appears on each page as the translation content and table/template content would be separated. I have restructured the cumbersome meta Main Page a while ago and made newer translations much easier.
          5. Implementation of MediaWikiwiki:Lua scripting possibly through MediaWikiwiki:Extension:Scribunto would also provide additional options currently not possible with parser functions.
These are just some examples of things I can do with my experience in templates, parser functions and magic words. I am not going to mess with anything currently in use without a detailed discussion prior.

I'm sorry, but you should not change the donation pages, ever. Those are intensely tested and highly specialized forms. Without a full understanding of them, they should not be touched. Philippe (WMF) (talk) 18:08, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely not, indeed. These are merely issues I have seen to be problematic on the site. I have the technical knowledge to assist with such a shift though should it be agreed up on. I am waiting for an email response actually. -- とある白い猫 chi? 23:31, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. This sort of thing requires approval from the staff responsible for the development of pages mentioned. Should you be approved to make changes to them, they have the relevant permissions to create an account for you. PeterSymonds (talk) 17:32, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Not done at this time. Wikimedia South Korea hasn't yet been approved by the Chapters Committee, so there won't be much (if anything) to do with this Chapter on WMF-Wiki. Organisation and maintenance for the proposed Chapter should be done here on Meta. Once it is created, we can revisit the need for a Wikimedia South Korea representative on WMF-wiki. Many thanks.
