Project GLOW/Project Saraswati
Saraswati is a collaborative project between Wikimedia Foundation, Google, and Wikimedia Indonesia to increase Wikipedia content, both quantity and quality. The project consist of two activities, writing contest and community gathering.
Objective
[edit]The objective is to increase relevant content primarily on Indonesian, Sundanese, Javanese, and Minangkabau Wikipedias. The project will encourage Wikipedia communities in Indonesia to create high-quality content in the languages above for the most searched for (but missing) relevant topics. The Growing Local Language Content on Wikipedia (GLOW) program, supported by Google, will specifically target language communities with small but growing Wikipedias and focus their efforts on producing missing content that local readers are searching for.
Writing contest
[edit]Wikimedia Indonesia will launch a writing contest which focus on Indonesian Wikipedia. The contest format like playing a game. There are 8 missions with different level of difficulty. The contest is open for new and existing editors as long as they are Indonesian citizen who resides in Indonesia. The participants have to make new articles. They are not allowed to improve the existing articles.
Community gathering
[edit]The community gathering is the second sub theme of project Saraswati. The community gathering will be conducted for 7 months. The main purpose of the event is to increase the quantity and the quality of Indonesia’s local languages Wiki as one of the methods to preserve the languages. These languages are Javanese, Sundanese, and Minangkabau. The selected participants will receive resources (laptop, internet stipends) to support article creation during the monthly gatherings. Wikimedia Indonesia will distribute 46 laptops and internet stipends for 100 contributors. The participants can get laptop and internet stipend or one of them.
