Project GLOW

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
Project GLOW
Project GLOW is a contest based editing campaign that focuses on creating and expanding articles of the most searched topics, that are missing on Wikipedia, across 18 languages, in 5 geographies.

About

[edit]

GLOW is derived from Growing Local Language Content on Wikipedia, and is a collaboration between Google’s search Team and Wikimedia Foundation’s partnerships team, that aims at creating articles for what users have searched most on Google, on a certain language, in a certain geography, where the search yielded missing results. Those lists of missing articles are part of the targeted articles to be edited or created, and another part is curated by Wikipedia communities in each language.

Project GLOW is an expansion of the earlier project Tiger, which has been implemented in India in 2017 and 2018 in collaboration with Google. The project resulted in creation of 4,466 articles with 220 contributors.

Project GLOW runs directly through local communities in each geography, either through chapters or mission aligned organizations that work with Wikipedians on the ground.
