Program for June 12 & 13 Movement Charter Conversations

The Movement Charter Conversations that will be held June 12 & 13 will focus on understanding the level of detail (scale) people expect to see for different parts of the Charter. Based on this conversation we hope to advance the discussion around the set up of the Drafting Committee.

For this event, we have provided four documents to prepare yourself. Please read them carefully before the event.

  • Understand the expectations for the scale of the Movement Charter
  • Define the next steps for setting up the Drafting Group

    • Group discussion mapping the options for the level of detail for each of the two recommended focal points of the Charter[1]

    • Matrix polling to map alignment and differences in the room
    • Discussion regarding divergence and convergence points
  • Working session: Drafting Group next steps
    • Overview of how the scale of the Charter content influences the process and Drafting Group set up
    • Presentation of a baseline option for the set up (based on a number of community proposals)
    • Discuss next steps for putting the drafting group into action

  1. According to the strategy recommendations, the Movement Charter has two main functions:
    • Lay the values, principles and policy basis for Movement structures, including the roles and responsibilities of the Global Council, regional and thematic hubs, as well as other existing and new entities and decision-making bodies,
    • Set requirements and criteria for decisions and processes that are Movement-wide to be legitimate and trusted by all stakeholders, e.g. for
      • Maintaining safe collaborative environments,
      • Ensuring Movement-wide revenue generation and distribution,
      • Giving a common direction on how resources should be allocated with appropriate accountability mechanisms.
      • Defining how communities work together and are accountable to each other.
      • Setting expectations for participation and the rights of participants.
