Wikivoyage Logo
The Wikivoyage logo has been updated on Template:OurProjects and OTRS but it hasn't transfered over to the translated versions. Could someone sort it out? Thanks. -- WOSlinker (talk) 19:46, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
- @WOSlinker: Done. Do you want to know how? PiRSquared17 (talk) 21:00, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
- There are some links/buttons to use according to step 3 of the docs which need to be used to propigate the changes, which I don't have (and don't actually need since it's been done). -- WOSlinker (talk) 06:33, 15 September 2013 (UTC)
- There's still a few places that the logo needs updating from Wikivoyage-logo.svg to Wikivoyage-Logo-v3-icon.svg on a few other wikis if anyone can help. -- WOSlinker (talk) 06:57, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

@WOSlinker: Basically, if translations are not updated:
- If the new version is already marked for translation (like in this case)
- If you are translation admin, either wait for it to update or dummy edit and remark - or do the next step
- If you are not translation admin, you can still update by null editing each translation individually (/en as well!)
- If not marked for translation, get an admin to mark it

User:Ylivalvoja
In english: Hey! I found user [7] with that name. It is finnish and means steward. In finnish Wikipedia usernames Ylläpitäjä (means admin) and Byrokraatti (means bureaucrat) are unsuitable usernames, so is this too unsitable? (Answer either in finnish or in english.)
In finnish: Hei!
- I can confirm this. I think the user should be blocked, though I don't know which are the rules regarding to user names in Meta. --Stryn (talk) 22:36, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
- A lock would make sense. --Nemo 21:32, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
Problem with editing - edit token
Hi. I have problem with editing Meta-Wiki while loged-in as User:KuboF (now I am using my bot account). Every time when I try to save my edit there is an error:
"MediaWiki:Token suffix mismatch"
No matter if the edit is minor or not, if I create new page or edit an existing one. I don't use proxy but I have shared internet connection without control about router. Editing as IP and on another projects works, only as KuboF on Meta is problematic. I have tried another browsers and update my current one but the effect is the same. I am using Firefox 25 on Kubuntu 13.04. Do you have any idea how to solve it? Thanks. --KuBOT (bot of KuboF) (talk) 03:41, 10 November 2013 (UTC)
- Try restarting your browser or clearing cookies/cache. PiRSquared17 (talk) 17:51, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

- @PiRSquared17: Now I have disabled the gadget EoMagicalConversion and I can edit, huráá! But there is no change in the gadget nor in the gadget which is in MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition listed after it in the time my problem have started. Only MediaWiki:Gadget-wm-portal.js have edits from Nov 11 but my problems started earlier. For testing I have enabled all gadgets without EoMagicalConversion and I can edit and then disabled all gadgets with exception for EoMagicalConversion and I wasn't able to edit. Maybe now, when on all (?) wikis is enabled Universal Language Selector we can even disable the gadget. --KuboF (talk) 21:53, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

Introducing Beta Features and Media Viewer
We're pleased to announce the first release of Beta Features, a new program from the Wikimedia Foundation that lets you try out new features before they are released for everyone.
Think of it as a digital laboratory where community members can preview upcoming software and give feedback to help improve them. This special preference page lets designers and engineers experiment with new features on a broad scale, but in a way that's not disruptive.
One of the first features we will be testing is Media Viewer, which aims to improve the multimedia viewing experience to display images in larger size and with less clutter on Wikipedia, Commons and MediaWiki sites. This first version 0.1 is still in early stages of development, with many known bugs, but we invite community feedback early on for this feature, so we can improve it together in coming months.
Beta Features and Media Viewer are now ready for early testing by logged-in users on on Meta.Wikimedia.org, on MediaWiki.org, and on Wikimedia Commons. Based on test results, we aim to release these beta features on all wikis worldwide on 21 November, 2013.
Here are some of the other beta features in our pipeline:
- VisualEditor Formulæ — edit algebra or equations on your pages (only on MediaWiki.org)
- Typography Refresh — make text more readable (scheduled for release Thursday, 14 November)
Would you like to try out Beta Features and Media Viewer now? After you log in here on MetaWiki (or on Commons and MediaWiki.org), a small 'Beta' link will appear next to your 'Preferences'. Click on it to see features you can test, check the ones you want (Media Viewer at this time), then click 'Save'. Learn more on the Beta Features page.
After you've tested Beta Features, please let us know what you think on this discussion page -- or report any bugs here on Bugzilla.
You're also welcome to join this IRC office hours chat on Friday, 8 November at 18:30 UTC.
Beta Features and Media Viewer were developed by the Wikimedia Foundation's Multimedia team, in collaboration with the Design, Mobile and VisualEditor teams. Along with other developers, we will be adding new features to this experimental program every few weeks. We are very grateful to all the community members who advised these projects — and look forward to many more productive collaborations in the future. :)
Enjoy, and don't forget to let us know what you think! Fabrice Florin (WMF) (talk) 22:07, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
- How to remove the "beta" link from the personal tools? I already have a link to preferences there and new extraneous buttons in the middle of where I'm used to click are quite a disturb. Thanks, Nemo 08:36, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
- @Nemo bis: Add
#pt-betafeatures { display:none}
into your .css-file. --Stryn (talk) 16:32, 8 November 2013 (UTC)- I think this code should be in MediaWiki:Common.css or the link should be removed from the extension. Does anyone agree? PiRSquared17 (talk) 20:30, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
- Stryn, doesn't work for me. --Nemo 20:39, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
- Try
#pt-betafeatures { display: none; }
(with a semicolon at the end). odder (talk) 20:43, 8 November 2013 (UTC)- That's what I did. --Nemo 20:58, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
- @Nemo bis: It seems it is added after page load. Try JS like $('#pt-betafeatures').hide(); in common.js PiRSquared17 (talk) 21:11, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
- That works, thanks for the edit. --Nemo 21:45, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
- Just an update, the CSS #pt-betafeatures{display:none} is working for me now. PiRSquared17 (talk) 06:18, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

- Yes. --MF-W 20:44, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
- @Fabrice Florin (WMF): Hello! Thank you for your work at the WMF. I am wondering why a new "beta" link is added to the personal tools section at the top of the page. Isn't it just part of preferences? PiRSquared17 (talk) 16:46, 9 November 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, but it is so glorious (like everything WMF does) that it must be in the top bar because everybody MUST see it.</WMF> --MF-W 21:42, 9 November 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for your thoughtful comments, Nemo, Stryn, PiRSquared17, Odder and MF-W. We appreciate your detailed feedback about the 'Beta' link, as well as your proposed Javascript code for users who want to remove it :) We are passing on your recommendations to our development team, so they can evaluate their pros and cons from a technical perspective. For now, I would like to give our design team's rationale for placing the 'Beta' link next to 'Preferences' in the personal menu. It is important that we get a critical mass of users to test some of the high-impact features we're working on (e.g. Visual Editor), so we can make major product decisions based on a more representative sample than just a few tech-savvy folks who are comfortable finding them in Preferences. So a prominent link is an essential requirement for this Beta program to be successful, otherwise we would not be able to get enough feedback for major new features. But if we hear from a lot of users that this small 'Beta' link is a serious issue, we are open to exploring an alternative solution for future releases, such as this Beta Link Preference (or only showing the Beta Link when there are new features). In the meantime, if our development team thinks it's a good idea, we could provide a link to your script for users who really want to remove this link right away. Note that our team has already been discussing this topic, but your comments are helping us view it from your perspective. For now, we are fixing the most urgent bugs, and will be rolling out more tweaks and new features in coming weeks, with our next release due on 21 November, and more updates in December. If you have any more suggestions or questions, you are welcome to post them here, and/or on this discussion page. I am out of office until 19 November, but you can contact our community liaison Keegan (WMF) or lead developer Mark Homquist with any urgent requests. Thanks again for helping us improve this tool!
