RedWarn extension

The RedWarn regex in the enwiki configuration should be adjusted per w:Special:Diff/1010640916/w:Special:Diff/1011320713/etc.

\[\[(WP|Wikipedia):REDWARN\|\(RedWarn|\[\[W:en:WP:RW\|\(RW

Qwerfjkl (talk) 10:36, 10 August 2021 (UTC)

@Qwerfjkl Thanks. As far as I can see, the script doesn't really leave any traces in the edit summary on the CTIOC page, so are you okay with just adding a regexp for - \[\[Wikipedia:Correct typos in one click\|Fix a typo in one click restricted to mainspace (for efficiency)? ~~~~
User:1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk)
16:27, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
@1234qwer1234qwer4: I would presume that almost all edits in the CTIOC page (and it's subpages) would be made via the script, except for Uziel302 adding in more possible typos after the pages are finished. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Qwerfjkl (talk) 17:35, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
We don't currently have a way to count edits depending on a page (in a way, this might be plausible, since tools only affecting one page usually don't do a high volume of edits). ~~~~

@1234qwer1234qwer4 Looking at the histiry, all the edits seem to be:

  • X->Y fixed!
  • X was not found in [[Y]]
Qwerfjkl (talk) 10:42, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
The summaries are pretty generic, and we don't have a way to look for regexp A in namespace a and regexp B in namespace b, unfortunately. @MusikAnimal Any thoughts on this? ~~~~
User:1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk)
10:52, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
Yes, this would be tricky to get right. I suggest asking Uziel302 to add some unique identifier to the edit summaries. A common way to do this to add i.e. (using [[WP:CTIOC|CTIOC]]) to end. This also helps advertise your script to other editors. MusikAnimal talk 16:25, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
@MusikAnimal This is already done in summaries of the edits in mainspace (as said above), and whoever is looking up edits on the WP:CTIOC page will already know what this is about, so I do get why this isn't done there from an "advertising" point of view. I think implementing the regexp I suggested above would do for now as long as the script is left unchanged, and it will catch at least part of the edits made by the tool. ~~~~

User:1234qwer1234qwer4, Qwerfjkl, I don't know what AutoEdits are, I can add anything you want to summaries in the project pages, but it would be helpful to know why. Uziel302 (talk) 07:55, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
@Uziel302 This is an example; it counts automated edits. Qwerfjkl (talk) 20:10, 24 August 2021 (UTC)
@1234qwer1234qwer4 Sorry for the late reply! I think going off of \[\[Wikipedia:Correct typos in one click\|Fix a typo in one click should be fine. A quick search suggests the script has somewhat widespread use. MusikAnimal talk 05:27, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
For now, I've added my proposed regexp to catch the edits in mainspace. If there is any change about the edit summaries on the WP:CTIOC page, please let me know. ~~~~

c:User:Jack who built the house/Convenient Discussions Qwerfjkl (talk) 20:07, 24 August 2021 (UTC)

@Qwerfjkl I had this idea a long time ago already, but then questioned how much worth there is in adding more discussion-aiding tools, given that DiscussionTools is getting popular as well. As far as I can tell, the only similar tool we currently analyse for is reply-link (which is local to enwiki), and that appears to have an outdated regexp as well. As with that tool, we would use contribs = true for each of these, so it is not an actually automated tool anyway, and implementing both (as global tools) might significantly affect performance. Maybe @MusikAnimal has any comments on this one as well? ~~~~
User:1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk)
14:19, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
Hmm yeah I could go either way. If usage is widespread I'm sure it's probably fine to add, since the regex isn't too complex. If CD were to ever use a tag, then we shouldn't hesitate to add that at least, as tags are efficient to query. In either case, do remember to use the "talk_namespaces": true option, assuming it makes sense here. MusikAnimal talk 05:23, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
@MusikAnimal, CD is already using a tag where it exists (ruwiki and Commons; I've also created a tag here on Meta per the developer's request, though the configuration is yet to be updated). The "talk_namespaces" parameter will probably be true in most cases, though of course some discussions can also happen in project space. Maybe @Jack who built the house has an opinion on how useful adding this tool to XTools would be? ~~~~
User:1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk)
13:33, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
As far as I could understand the purpose of this tool, it shows a list and stats of edits for a given user distributed by tool. I don't see how this could help me as a maintainer of CD, I guess it's more of a question to users how this could help them. Jack who built the house (talk) 18:43, 10 September 2021 (UTC)

Scope?

I've recently added a Commons user script to the configuration, and while that was pretty clearly useful for the tool, having almost 200 imports, I'm not sure if two other user scripts (that I am using) are widespread enough to warrant an addition. I am talking about:

@MusikAnimal, what do you think about these? ~~~~
User:1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk)
12:01, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

@1234qwer1234qwer4 If they are used a lot (even if it's just limited to small group of users), I don't see any issue with adding them. There was a time when we had to be really careful about keeping the AutoEdits config concise, for performance reasons. However since the new replicas were deployed, I've noticed few if any timeouts. I doubt adding these two would slow it down noticeably. However obviously we can't include every user script ever created, so the line must be drawn somewhere. I trust your judgement :) MusikAnimal talk 21:32, 20 September 2021 (UTC)

Don't show RW and TW edit in Undo

A lot of the items on my list of Undo edits are from RedWarn. I think edits from RW should be removed from Undo, as they weren't made using the Undo tool. Aaron Liu (talk) 22:20, 28 April 2023 (UTC)

@Aaron Liu: The edits from RedWarn and Twinkle on enwiki do indirectly use the undo tool, though, even if it wasn't directly. SHB2000 (talk | contribs) 11:36, 30 April 2023 (UTC)
But the user didn't use the undo tool, another semiautomated tool did, so these shouldn't be the user's edits under the undo tool. Aaron Liu (talk) 14:02, 30 April 2023 (UTC)
Yeah, my point is the semiautomated tool uses the undo tool, which is why MediaWiki tags those edits as "Undos". SHB2000 (talk | contribs) 21:42, 3 May 2023 (UTC)
Well could they be excluded to offer a better representation of semi-automated edits? Aaron Liu (talk) 01:21, 4 May 2023 (UTC)

Add Checkty as a semi-automated tool on hewiki

Checkty is an editing tool widely used on the Hebrew Wikipedia. It allows users to make automated edits like the removal of trailing whitespaces, fixing common grammar mistakes, assuring consistency in the placement of punctuation marks relative to adjacent references, etc.

It is the second-most popular gadget on the Hebrew Wikipedia. Having been around since 2009, edits made using Checkty are automatically marked with the צ'קטי tag since August 2015. Since that time, more than 300 thousand edits have been made with this gadget.

Checkty is a very useful tool. However, due to its simplicity and easiness to use, it frequently has the effect of making dozens (sometimes hundreds) of consecutive bot-like edits. While not a completely automatic tool, it often requires very little, if any, manual intervention by the editor. Many of the Hebrew Wikipedia editors with the largest number of edits have made a significant portion of their edits with Checkty, and it would therefore be very useful and informative to have this data included on XTools' AutoEdits interface.

As mentioned, all edits made with this gadget are tagged, so you can easily access the list of recent changes made with it.

Thanks, Guycn2 (talk) 22:18, 25 September 2023 (UTC)

@Framawiki, added along with another tag that has been heavily used according to Special:Tags on Commons and Wikidata and somewhat on enwiki.
On another note, I can't seem to find the "OAuth CID: 905" and "OAuth CID: 919" tags anywhere, at least on those three wikis and Meta. (The very first one, "OAuth CID: 351", appears to have been barely used, but there are at least some edits with it.) Since the initial list of tags appears to originate from a comment by @AntiCompositeNumber, could I have some clarification on these? Right now these two seem a bit like clutter that's eating system resources (particularly since this is a "global" tool, being checked on every wiki). ~~~~
User:1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk)
20:58, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
@1234qwer1234qwer4. Thanks. As far I know, when developer of an app using oauth needs to update its app to change the rights requested on the behalf of the user, he needs to create a new version. New oauth customer version creates a new tag ID, and the previous one is no longer used from now. Ie phab:T338023 created a new oauth customer, so all paws edits done from this time are using the new tag ID. Framawiki (talk) 22:24, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
I've gone ahead and removed the two tags I assumed were unused, as I don't see any need in checking all edits against them. cc @Chicocvenancio, who might know if they have ever been used (though it's most likely not worth readding it if it's only a small number). ~~~~

@The Master of Hedgehogs, should this really be considered an automated tool? It seems like this is similar to w:User:BrandonXLF/QuickEdit and similar (though that leaves nothing in the edit summary), just slightly simplifying regular edits. While we can add a contribs = true parameter to count them as a tool but discount them for the semi-automatic edit count, I don't quite see the necessity unless this is needed for some sort of tracking purposes.
