What is the solution?

An AfroCuration event is a program, organized by cultural and creative organizations where young Africans are encouraged to become knowledge producers to tell the African story, and share free, open, accessible through Wikipedia.

Things to consider

  • Decide the theme of the event
  • Get a dedicated staff who would learn all things Wikipedia editing. OR
  • Invite an experienced Wikipedia editor
  • Have a community of participants
  • Decide if you would be doing translation of already written articles or writing new ones.
  • Curate the articles for the event with references if you’re writing new ones.
  • Decide the African language you would be writing or translating into and find their Wikipedia URL.
  • Invite one or two motivational speakers especially one in the Youths would be happy to see.
  • Decide a date for the event if its online or offline.
  • Design communication fliers, sign up forms and share with the community.
  • Host a pre-activation event to answer pressing questions and get participants energies high.
  • Prepare for the event day. Draw a program plan. Assign the already curated articles to participants
  • It’s the event day. Run your event according to plan.
