Chapter staff do not meet the criteria for membership on the committee.

[edit]

@Ilario: Thanks for signing up to be on the Simple Annual Plan Grants committee, Ilario! We're glad you're interested in helping steer the pilot, and we agree you have some great experience to offer. However, WMF and chapter staff are not able to be on this committee. We realize this may seem strange since the criteria here are a little different than those for the IEGCom or the GAC, which you've been involved with. This criterion was borrowed from the criteria for FDC membership, because like the FDC process, this option does provide funding for groups and organizations with staff and we think having all volunteer oversight here is important.

And, yes, we appreciate that you are a very active volunteer as well as chapter staff! We're drawing the line at those currently employed by chapters or the WMF, however. That said, we hope you're still willing to offer your feedback and advice about how the pilot's going. We need as many hands on deck as possible to make sure the pilot goes well, and I've been in touch with a number of people who have expressed interest in being informal advisors despite not being able to join the committee at this time. I'd love to be able to contact you as well to request your input throughout the pilot, and please feel welcome to actively review and comment upon grant applications as a community member. Comments from community members will be welcome as part of the review process :)

Best regards and many thanks for volunteering, Winifred Olliff (WMF Program Officer) talk 03:44, 6 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Welcome, Chinmayi

[edit]

Welcome to the Committee, Chinmayi! Chinmayi will join the committee on 16 February for a 12-month term, making a full committee of nine members. Chinmayi's application was reviewed according to the criteria for membership, and the review also included a short interview. Her volunteer experience with Wikimedia and other open source communities, and her professional experience working with nonprofits will be a huge asset to the committee. Cheers, Winifred Olliff (WMF Program Officer) talk 20:22, 16 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

You must be committed to friendly space expectations to join the committee.

[edit]

@DerekvG: thank you for your interest in joining the Simple Annual Plan Grants Committee. We appreciate your commitment to Wikimedia Belgium and to supporting other Wikimedia organizations in the grants process.

The committee is currently full, but upon review of your application, we also find that you do not meet two of the primary criteria required for membership:

  • Commitment to the Friendly Space Expectations.
  • Consistent record of constructive engagement in community discussions.

This assessment is based on a review of your edits in the grants namespace over the past several years, when you were a member of the Grants Advisory Committee that reviews Project and Event Grants, and the warnings you have received regarding disrespectful communication. Any candidate not meeting one or more of these primary criteria will not be considered eligible for membership on the committee.

We'd be happy to reassess your application in the future, once these issues are addressed and you demonstrate a strong commitment both to the Friendly Space Expectations and to engaging in constructive community discussions. Thank you for your commitment to the Wikimedia movement, and your interest in serving on the committee.

Best regards, Winifred Olliff (WMF Program Officer) talk 20:43, 16 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

ː Winifred Olliff (WMF Program Officer) can you specify to what warning you refer to and where I have said that I wasn't committed to the FSE? --DerekvG (talk) 13:35, 19 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Sure, here is one example where you violated FSE: https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Grants_talk%3APEG%2FWikicology%2F100_articles_contribution_to_Yoruba_Language_Wikipedia&type=revision&diff=14757889&oldid=14754574. Changes to the Simple APG Committee - July 2016

[edit]

Greetings! I am very happy to officially renew the following five active members whose terms are expiring at the end of this month for a new 6-month term. Including,

Chinmayisk, your term is still current since you only joined the committee a few months ago, and committed to a twelve-month term :)

Antanana, Smallbones, and Kiril, thank you for your service on the inaugural committee. We hope you stay involved!

As founding members, you have done so much to get this committee and this program off the ground. Your work to support Wikimedia chapters and user groups is making a real difference. You all have brought valuable skills and prospectives to our work together as a committee. We're so grateful for the time and expertise you have devoted for to this work.

This means that the committee is currently comprised of six members, and we have space for three new members on the committee. If you have reviewed the criteria for committee membership and would like to join the Simple Annual Plan Grants Committee, please add your name to the Candidates page.

Cheers, Winifred Olliff (WMF Program Officer) talk 18:25, 12 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Welcome aboard, Lord Bumbury and Rubin16!

The following candidates meet the criteria for membership, and are invited to join the committee for 12 month terms starting 1 August 2016:

Thanks for volunteering to join the Simple Annual Plan Grants Committee! The committee will benefit greatly from your skills and experience, which you bring from your professional and your Wikimedia lives. We'll be adding you to the Simple APG Committee list today, so that you can begin communicating with your fellow committee members. We're excited to have you join us!

This means that the committee currently has eight members and will still be recruiting for the remaining spot until we reach nine members. I will update the committee page with the current makeup of the committee.

Cheers, Winifred Olliff (WMF Program Officer) talk 21:40, 2 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Welcome aboard, Becksguy

[edit]

Welcome, User:Becksguy / Pete! Thanks for nominating yourself and including such a detailed statement. It's clear you have a lot to offer the committee in terms of your experience within and outside of the Wikimedia movement, and you also have the skills to work productively in a consensus-based environment. I hope you also learn a lot from your experience on the committee, and have a good time doing it. We can set up a hangout soon to help orient you to how applications work, and in the mean time, I will introduce you to your fellow committee members. Best, Winifred Olliff (WMF Program Officer) talk 17:37, 23 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Welcome Liang and Geisa!

[edit]

I am very happy to welcome Geisa and Liang to the Simple APG Committee. Thanks to you both for your statements, and for your service to the movement. You will both bring some interesting perspectives to the committee. Geisa, I know your experience with and commitment to diversity will be a major asset to the committee. Liang, we are very glad to have your experience with nonprofits and education. Welcome both! Winifred Olliff (WMF Program Officer) talk 03:33, 8 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

WMF staff and contractors not eligible

[edit]

Hello, Felix Nartey! Thank you so much for submitting your candidacy. I agree you are a very qualified candidate and your experience would be very valuable to the committee; however, at this time staff and contractors for Wikimedia organizations (including the WMF) are not able to join the committee. We are sorry. Best, Winifred Olliff (WMF Program Officer) talk 20:28, 23 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

We are not accepting new members at this time

[edit]

@Aotfs2013: Hello, Wang Yi-Sheng ! Thank you for your interest in joining the Simple Annual Plan Grants committee. I do apologize for the delayed response to your nomination, which I only just now noticed. We are not accepting new members at this time. This is because the work of the committee is currently on pause while we are engaged with the movement strategy process during the coming year. We aren't able to take on orienting new members, and we also don't think that's a wise use of resources given that there may be major changes to the committee or this grants program. It does seem like you have a lot of relevant experience to contribute! We will let you know if membership reopens. All the best, Winifred Olliff (WMF Program Officer) talk 23:14, 15 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
