Comments from I JethroBT (WMF)[edit]

@Agbalagba: Thanks for your report on the Yoruba Language Wikipedia Workshop. Here are my comments and questions:

  • I really love the group photos from the workshops! Thanks to Kaizenify for capturing these and to you for including them in the report!
I am excited that you love the group photos, all credit to Kaizenify and thanks for the kind words
  • Thanks for all the detail you provided in the bottom section of the report. It is clear there are a lot of circumstances you face that make it difficult for people to contribute to Wikipedia in their native language, some of are beyond your control or responsibility. It important for us to know these circumstances so that we know how to help you and others working in the region make appropriate goals for their programs and events. I'm glad you are considering some approaches to resolve some of these issues. In your possible solutions section, have you started any planning around any of these ideas or considered what support you might need?
One of the possible solution we have identified is collaboration of Yoruba language Wikipedia community with the literate Yoruba scholars. We are currently in close contact with the Lagos State Chapter of Egbe Akomolede ati asa, an association of teachers of Yoruba in the pre-primary schools, teachers of Yoruba in secondary schools, teachers in colleges, college of education, the polytechnics and other post secondary institutions where Yoruba is being taught in Nigeria. Members also includes representatives of educational bodies such as W.A.E.C., N.E.C.O., ministries of education, N.E.R.D.C., cultural centers. Media houses, publishing organizations and other persons or group of persons keenly interested in the develop of Yoruba language and culture in Nigeria. Representatives of the association attended the just concluded Yoruba Language Wikipedia Workshop. They were excited to know about Yoruba Wikipedia and they are looking forward to possible collaboration. We do want to take one step at a time as we believed we can't possibly deal with all of these issue in a day. We will come of with a strategy to solving some of these problems (if not all) and keep you abreast of our activities and we won't hesitate to request for any support from WMF.
  • Thank you for sending us a sign-up sheet for participants. Can a list of usernames or accounts created be provided in the report?
Sure. This has been listed on the report
  • For clarification, when will the contest end, and will you update this report afterward to describe the outcomes and provide a list of articles created an improved?
We have decided to extend the contest for a period of additional one month, so that we can have more participation from the workshop attendees who are all new editors. The participation is slow but productive and at the end of the contest, we will update this report with the ouitcomes.
  • Both myself and LSmith (WMF) have e-mailed you regarding some questions regarding the remaining funds on your budget. Please review and respond as soon as you are able.

Please respond to the above questions when you can. When these questions have been resolved, this report can be approved. Thanks so much for running this workshop, and I hope the contest goes well! Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 17:55, 21 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

I have responded to LSmith (WMF) and I have answered the questions regarding the remaining funds on my budget. I am not sure you were copied in the email but I forwarded my response to him again with you CCe'd in the email. Please let me know if you have additional questions or clarification. Additional comments from WMF[edit]

Hi, Agbalagba, thank you for responding to I JethroBT (WMF)'s questions and comments above. I have reviewed and accepted your expense documentation.

Before we can accept this report, would you please update it with final statistics from the contest, particularly how many articles were created or improved? If any of the other statistics changed, please update them as well.

Many thanks, LSmith (WMF) (talk) 20:58, 12 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

LSmith (WMF), I have updated the report with the statistics of articles created. Thank you for your support. Regards. Agbalagba TC 12:10, 6 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Report accepted[edit]

Hi, Agbalagba, thank you for adding that list of articles created! I have now accepted this report. However, this grant will not be complete until you decide what to do with the remaining funds. You have two options:

  1. You can return the remaining funds to WMF, following these instructions
  2. You can submit another rapid grant request, from which the remaining funds would be deducted. You would need to submit an application within 30 days and it would need to meet all the criteria for a rapid grant, including the $500 USD minimum.

Please let us know what you decide, and update the "Remaining funds" section of the report accordingly. Let me know if you have questions! Warmly, LSmith (WMF) (talk) 19:16, 17 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Remaining funds from this project[edit]

Hello! As communicated over email, in order for the Rapid Grants team to finalize their decision regarding future submissions, please return the remaining unused grant funds to WMF. You can find the instructions in Lindsey's note above. If you have any further questions or updates about this grant, please contact rapidgrants(_AT_)wikimedia.org. Thank you. -- Morgan Jue (WMF) (talk) 20:31, 11 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
