[edit]Dear Nabin K. Sapkota, apologies for the delay in accepting this report! Thank you for sharing the level of detail and photos from Wiki Loves Monuments 2016. It's amazing to see these results and to hear your reflections on aspects you would like to improve for future events. What kind of setbacks did you encounter, and how could you prepare for those challenges next time? Were these participants new to WLM? Have you received any feedback or kept in contact with them to gather ideas for future contests? I enjoyed reading this, and look forward to hearing from you! MJue (WMF) (talk) 20:06, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
- First of all, thanks MJue (WMF) for accepting the report. And I'll be sorry for responding a little late. Respecting your beautiful supportive words, here I want to start by answering your queries.
- 1) What kind of setbacks did you encounter, and how could you prepare for those challenges next time?
Well, the prior obstacles we detect during the event is moreover a lack of proper knowledge about the core meaning of Wikipedia itself in general public here in Nepal. The terms like "Wikimedia and its sister's project" is somehow the words they probably never heard before. In such condition its been always hard for us to conduct such a huge initiation every year. Besides that, unavailability of reliable Internet connectivity is also one of the most emerging barriers for us -both organizers and contributors. Although, for photo walks campaign and outreach programmers Wikipedia Zero by Ncell telecommunication services helped a lot this year to grab the high amount of photographs.
Talking about the preparation to avoid these obstacles for upcoming events, we've now planned and in some issues still planning to spread the Wiki culture all over in school, colleges, Universities and with all scholars who intended to write there along with all readers who intended to read and follow back. Besides that as we introduced a new idea of Right man for the right job all the coordinating members were the pro. photographers and photography activist which made this event even more successful, and we're glad to continue with the same theme.
- 2) Were these participants new to WLM?
Obviously, as I wrote before that in WLM 2017 Nepal about 70% of the contributors were newly registered to Wikipedia during September 2016 and in remaining 30% pre-registered Wikipedians also more than 50% contributors were new to WLM. In a sense, it was a fabulous movement this year and still on the way to grown up.
- 3) Have you received any feedback or kept in contact with them to gather ideas for future contests?
Yes, we did. Well, due to some situational circumstances we organized the winner's felicitation program after couple months of winner announcement. And during this gap, we got a lot of feedback and encouragement from our contributors and other interested parties. Everyone's asking about what's the next initiation, how can we participate, what's the subject area, how can we help out and more.... And Ya, that's pretty true that some people were just asking about the prize, prize and prize amount..
Later on, when the day came to felicitate the winners on December 17 , almost all the winners, participants, event associates, jurors and media personals deliberate their valuable words of thanks and congratulation for such a successful event and promise to follow up in every single event where we walking through. Now to elaborate those brainstorming sessions we are thinking to have a one-day seminar with the open source activists, open content enthusiasts, media personal and all the related parties to extract their ideas for the further development of Wikipedia and Wikimedia movements. -Nabin K. Regarding outstanding amount
[edit]Hi MJue (WMF), I've included 16,183 NPR($151.15 USD) as a outstanding amount here in report. Please confirm your opinion. -Nabin K. Sapkota (talk) 16:05, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Nabin K. Sapkota. Thanks again for bringing this to my attention, and apologies for the delay in response. Could you describe which expenses may have been overbudgeted from this grant? Since this was a significant amount from the initially approved budget, it will be good to know how we can work to avoid outstanding amounts in the future. Thanks, Morgan Jue (WMF) (talk) 17:15, 16 June 2017 (UTC)
- Hi MJue (WMF) regarding the outstanding budget, the outreach program cost was little high than we actually expected. Especially, Outreach program at Janakpur from Maithili Wikimedians & Travel of Maithili Wikimedians from Rajbiraj to Kathmandu to attend felicitation program costs a little over budget. But, make sure that the outcomes were also historical than we promised and expected, that's why we didn't compromise on cost. Regarding the financial terms and agreements, we'll surely take care of predefined budget before we actually move on in future programs :) Regards -Nabin K. Sapkota (talk) 01:45, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Nabin K. Sapkota. I am pinging @AWang (WMF): and @I JethroBT (WMF): to respond accordingly to your reimbursement request. We understand that the outreach expenses were unexpectedly higher. However, please note that when you sign a grant agreement for this grant or any future WMF grant, you are required to notify us immediately once these expenses are about to be incurred so that we are able to adjust and support your project before its completion to avoid these requests during the reporting stage. Best, Morgan Jue (WMF) (talk) 20:54, 12 July 2017 (UTC)
- @Nabin K. Sapkota: Thanks for this context. Before approving this reallocation, could you adjust the budget table on the report to account for this difference in the actual total and the budgeted total? The budgeted total should only add up to the amount of the grant (i.e. 176298.93 NPR), whereas the actual total should be the actual amount spent. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 22:44, 12 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hi @I JethroBT (WMF):, I've updated the table, please confirm - Nabin K. Sapkota (talk) 17:18, 12 August 2017 (UTC)
