[edit]Hello, Cleo Sallis; thank you for submitting this grant proposal. We have comments and questions we would like you to address as we review your proposal.
- Can you please give us details about the ‘host honorarium’ item in your budget? We understand that your studio will be the venue for this editathon.
I added the number of hours and the fees paid to our host, Zeesy Powers. Yes, we will be providing our production studio for the event. We are a new media gallery and production studio for new media artists, we get a lot of people through our space especially on the weekend, so we are looking forward to welcoming our community for the edit-a-thon dedicated to women, female-identified, trans and non-binary new media artists.
- How will you ensure to meet the friendly space expectations throughout your editathon?
InterAccess always gives a land acknowledgement at the beginning of all public events (workshops, community events, gallery openings, meetings and conferences). We recognize that we are living in a colonial space and believe that it's extremely important to publicly acknowledge the First Peoples on whose traditional territories we live and work. We use the Ryerson University land acknowledgement: https://www.ryerson.ca/aec/land-acknowledgement/ Acknowledging territory shows recognition of and respect for Aboriginal Peoples. It is recognition of their presence both in the past and the present. Recognition and respect are essential elements of establishing healthy, reciprocal relations. We have a poster of social rules posted at the entrance of our studio. We are inspired by the Recurse Centre in New York City's social rules, listed below. Our space is friendly and welcoming. We strive to maintain an environment of curiosity, where everyone who walks in feels that they have a space to learn at their own pace. https://www.recurse.com/social-rules
- No well-actually’s
- No feigned surprise
- No backseat driving
- No subtle -isms
- Given the technical challenges of hosting editathons, especially those that address gender gap issues in Wikipedia, we need confirmation from at least one experienced Wikipedian willing to take on a leading facilitation role in this editathon. Please ask her or them to endorse your proposal on the grant request page, or to chime in in this discussion page.
See endorsement at the bottom of the grant! Thanks!
Looking forward to your responses, MMontes (WMF) (talk) 13:54, 2 May 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, Cleo Sallis; thank you for your responses. We appreciate your efforts to promote friendly spaces in your events and we will point WMF grantees to your answer to help spread better practices across our movement.
With your response regarding the host honorarium, what I understand now is that the host honorarium would be used to found Zeesy Powers' work. Unfortunately, the Rapid Grants guidelines prohibit us from funding volunteer labor.
Would you still be interested in receiving the other funds for this event if we cannot cover the host honorarium?
Regards, MMontes (WMF) (talk) 21:58, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
Hello Mariel, Thank you very much for your response! I totally understand, and thank you for pointing that out. I missed that guideline. We would be very happy to receive the rest of the funds, which will help us cover direct expenses for the event and ensure that it is a success. Many thanks again, and I look forward to hearing from you. Cléo. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by InterAccess Toronto (talk)

[edit]Hello, Cleo Sallis; thank you for making the adjustment. I am sorry to give you a further request that might seem contradictory with my last one; Rapid Grants only funds projects beginning at 500 USD. With the adjustment we made to your original proposal, we can no longer fund the project as is. If you would be interested in doubling the amount to do two events, for example, the grant would be eligible. Sadly, we cannot change our policy on the payment for someone's time. Please let us know if you decide to update your proposal or withdraw it. MMontes (WMF) (talk) 22:31, 17 May 2019 (UTC)
Hi Mariel, I completely understand and it's come to our attention that some elements were missing from our original budget. Please find an update to our proposal. Thank you! InterAccess Toronto (talk) 20:21, 21 May 2019 (UTC) — The preceding unsigned comment was added by InterAccess Toronto (talk)
Hello, Cleo Sallis; thank you for making adjustments to the budget. Before we approve, I'd like to get some more details on the promotional postcard design. Will any considerations be taken to ensure that the design can be used beyond the promotion of this specific event? Maybe the designer can share back the design in editable formats to reuse for other Art and Feminism initiatives (and it could be shared on Wikimedia Commons). MMontes (WMF) (talk) 22:48, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
Hello MMontes (WMF)! Yes, this is a fantastic idea and we will definitely ensure that the designer provides us with the postcard design in an Illustrator file. We plan to organize an edit-a-thon every year going forward, so we will be able to simply change the date and details and re-use the design. I can also definitely share it on Wikimedia Commons for other Art and Feminism initiatives. Thanks again! talk
