COVID 19 planning

[edit]

Dear Luca Landucci and Kaspo,

Updated COVID-19 planning guidelines do not allow your proposal to proceed in the current round. I have emailed multiple times with instructions about next steps, but I have not heard a reply from you. Can you please contact me as soon as possible so we can follow up at projectgrants (_AT_) wikimedia  · org?

Thank you, --Marti (WMF) (talk) 05:33, 26 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Mjohnson (WMF): I sent you a e-mail. Repeat my message here. We need 2 weeks to update our proposal with online events and reschedule offline events. Can you review it on 10th May? Is allowed to fund tutors for online courses about editing on Wikipedia? --Kaspo (talk) 22:37, 27 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Proposal withdrawn by staff due to COVID-19 restrictions

[edit]

Dear Kaspo,

As you are aware, global public health guidance during the COVID-19 pandemic continues to emphasize the importance of staying home, canceling public gatherings, and minimizing in-person contact. As the gravity of the pandemic has become clearer, it is less certain when offline gatherings or travel will be safe again. Initially, we had requested that offline events be postponed until after September 15, 2020. However, due to increasing uncertainty over how long the pandemic will persist, many of our grant programs are no longer funding any offline events or travel until further notice. Project Grants is continuing to fund offline events and travel only at very minimal levels in projects that meet all of these criteria, as emailed to all applicants on April 11, 2020:

  • core components of the proposed work plan can be completed without offline events or travel.
  • all planned offline events or travel can be indefinitely postponed, until the Wikimedia Foundation’s guidelines allow for them, without significant harm to the goals of your project.
  • the proposal is updated with a COVID-19 response plan by April 16, 2020, providing a brief summary of how these guidelines have been met, and how it would impact the project if travel and offline events prove unfeasible throughout the entire life of your project.

Staff have reviewed your proposal in light of these guidelines, and determined that your proposal cannot proceed in the current round. We are marking your proposal withdrawn from the current round, but you are heartily welcomed to submit this same proposal for review in a future round, with the next one scheduled for early 2021. You are also welcome to submit proposals for online events through Rapid Grants.

While we seek to promote free knowledge, our priority is the safety and well-being of the people who make it possible--you, your Wikimedia community, and the general public. We are acting with an abundance of caution to keep people safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. We deeply regret that this global health situation prevents offline projects from proceeding as planned. We appreciate your time, effort and courage in applying for funding this round, and would welcome another proposal from you in the future, once offline event funding has resumed.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions you have about this post at projectgrants (_AT_) wikimedia  · org.

With thanks,
