Corrections to financial proposal[edit]

There was a mistake in the conversion to USD. GHC 30500 converted to USD is 3877.16 using oanda on 1/6/22 not 4426.8 USD. -- Robertjamal12 ~🔔 10:23, 3 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Endorsement[edit]

I fully support this project because Fante has been under represented for so long. Moreover I was part of the team that helped coordinate translatewiki sessions in both Cape Coast in the Central Region and Takoradi in the Western Region. The turn out was massive which indicates that more volunteers can be involved in subsequent trainings which will help involve more people to contribute in Fante Wikipedia. This project if funded would help improve Fante on Wikipedia. daSupremo 21:38, 4 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

1. The Fante language is a widely spoken language with eminent personalities in Ghana. The people recently translated the most used MediaWiki statements and some other statements to ensure that most of the buttons are in Fante. Since they are wide spread, meeting them in their populated zones will mean training of the active who shall intend become ambassadors at these locations.

2. The whole grant is comprehensive especially the strategies and activities to be used to achieve the set objectives. 3. The proposal builds on the translation of the MediaWiki statements and its focus on teaching the community members how to edit on wikipedia is a great idea to applaud. 4. Yes, this project will help in the documentation of their culture which is in tandem with the movement strategy learning and innovation in free knowledge. 5. It's very coherent --Dnshitobu (talk) 20:19, 6 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Comments from the MEA regional funds committee and staff[edit]

Dear Robertjamal12, thank you again for submitting your grant application and all your efforts put into the growth of the Fante Wikimedians Community. We have reviewed your application and there are a few comments and requests from us:

  • We think that the significance of the project and grant application are clear. It is coherent in terms of the change you wants to make.
  • Our main requests are about the budget:
    • What would it cost to purchase a projector instead of renting it?
      • Thank you for your question. The Fante Wikimedia Community is a young upcoming community of volunteers who need training on a lot of things and as such, we feel it is more economical to purchase it so that community members will be able to use it not for only this project but for others too. It's quite expensive to rent from 350 cedis to 400 per day depending upon the quality of the projector. Acquiring one will help us save a lot of cost now and in the future. Prices of projectors starts from ₵3,049.00 . Find info here
    • Please confirm that you will create reusable communication materials when possible. For example: pull up banners and flyers can be reused in your future projects.
      • Yes the materials will be reusable. The pull up banner will be displayed during training and other events community is involved in. It will also serve as a point of direction to attendees during training and once our contact details will remain on, new people can reach out anything for recruitment as volunteers or to seek answers to their queries.
    • We will not support 40 T-shirts. Please create them only for the facilitators and most active participants. You also mentioned that you would create T-shirts for the contest. What contest is this? Can we learn more about it?
      • The T-shirt gives more free advertisement as community members wear them. It attract people's attention, making them ask to know more, hence could be recruited. Regarding the contest, members would be rolled in for an editathon contest dubbed "TASTE MY HANDWRITING" to enable them practice what they have learnt and henceforward populate the incubator with more content.

The cost is not supporting 40 people but 30 people including facilitators, with a unit price as GHS40.00. Active participants who will contribute more will receive the T-shirts as prizes and this could motivate others to want to participate more.

    • We will also not support post-event internet expenses for all participants. Firstly, please reduce the number and offer data allowance only to active participants. Additionally, please reduce the amount and align it with the internet expenses in Ghana.
      • Changes have been made
    • Similarly, please reduce the number of prizes (data allowances); offer it only to active participants.
      • Changes have been made
    • Also, please explain the difference between Data allowance for participants (row 17), Prizes and awards (row 10), and Internet and services (row 8). I may be mistaken, but one of these expenses seems redundant.
      • The data allowance on row 17 is to enable participants to Join all three online events, row 10 is for participants who will continuously work on the translations, creating articles throughout the 1 and half-month duration of the project and row 8 is what will be used during the 3 in person events

Please make these changes on Fluxx to your approved budget. Log in to the Grantee Portal and you will see your application in the 'Proposals need attention' section. Please edit and submit your application by Jun 23, 2022. Remember to revise the requested amount in USD and GHS. Let us know if you have any questions.
