Queries

I believe you were successful last year. Could you briefly explain to us which WM-in-residences were achieved, where?

And could you give us even a vague idea of what lies in your sights this time? I appreciate that you may be in delicate negotiations with institutions, and may not want to disclose any details. But might it be a museum of art (with possible Commons uploads), a library (with releases into the public domain of valuable historical documents)? Etc. Moreover, I reckon that maybe a model of collaboration in payment might be advisable to ensure the museum's commitment, seeing that a WiR might benefit both Wikimedia DK and the museum, no? NLIGuy (talk) 20:02, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

Sorry for the late response. The residencies last year were in the National Museum (2 months half time) and in the Royal Library (3 months full time). A project on art processes and materials will begin this autumn. We are still talking to other Copenhagen-based GLAMs, but I don't know how far the process is in their systems.

As to our impression: At the beginning, the National Museum was "we would really want to do this, but we do not have any money". They were more or less shamed into applying for state money because we could say "if it is such a problem, then we will pay compensation so someone can volunteer for you".

As for results, the National Museum has given their individual collections and departments goals ("produce X new Wikipedia articles"). Some departments acheived the goal during the residency, others are still working on it. The residencies have also given us a whole lot of contacts in the GLAM sector. --Palnatoke (talk) 19:44, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

I count 116 new articles, if I take the contributions of w:da:Kategori:Brugere Medarbejdere på Nationalmuseet and w:da:Kategori:Brugere Medarbejdere på Det Kongelige Bibliotek from April 2012 to now. Not all employees are in that count, though. As to pictures, a similar count could probably be made in Wikimedia Commons, but a large part there are the runestones uploaded by User:Idagustav. There are also a number of texts written and images uploaded by me - they are harder to count, though. --Palnatoke (talk) 06:51, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

Other funding sources

Thanks for the submission. My questions are mostly related on the funding. Do you have any other funding sources to compensate the two Wikipedians for their work? Since you mention that you aim to attract a non-student to be Wikipedian in Residence, do you think that the person will agree on the conditions you offer? Denmark has a rather good funding system for students and unemployed, so the scholarship helps narrow the gap between student grants/unemployment benefit and ordinary salary. It is not meant to be salary. And yes, several non-student Wikipedians talked about applying for the position at the National Museum last year, so we are certain that the conditions are agreeable. As to working time, it very much depends on the institution. The larger the institution, the more time is needed in order to have a fair chance of getting in touch with all the relevant people. --Palnatoke (talk) 07:29, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

That's easy. I was the Wikipedian-in Residence both at the National Museum and at the Royal Library. We don't know who the next will be, but it will probably not be me (unless the institution asks specifically for me, of course). --Palnatoke (talk) 06:30, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
