Hi @DrMel: and @Rocky92591:. Thanks so much for this report! It's really exciting to learn about how the community in San Diego is developing and the connections you've been able to make in such a short amount of time. It sounds like you've made great progress in networking with like-minded organizations and created a great partnership with the Sand Diego Central Library. Connecting with existing Wikimedians like Deborah has also been a big win for your project! We were really interested in reading about the social aspects of your editathons and how this informal part of the meeting has created a welcoming and positive atmosphere, especially for new editors.

We understand that the realities of training new editors has made focusing on the goals of editing specific topic areas or focusing recruitment on women challenging. You talk about wanting to address these areas in the future and we're curious how you're thinking about doing that. Understanding what the interests of the people that the library can bring in will be important to creating a sustainable editing meetup.

A best practices guide for others that want to host their own editathons is a great idea and one that other folks have created. There are a bunch of ediathon resource links at the bottom of this page. I would specifically recommend looking at the Systemic Bias Workshop Kit, Ediathon How-to, and Art+Feminism Editathon How To.
