Thank you Nebiyu and Abel for this grant proposal and your efforts to support open educational resources in Ethiopia. We're excited to support activites in Ethiopia, but this grant request as it is currently constructed is very ambitious and too large in scope for an intitial project. Since you have interest from a number of universities, we would recommend that you pick one university to conduct a pilot project. A good pilot would include a series of events (3-5) where you invite participants to attend multiple events and learn basic wiki editing skills. We would also encourage you to invite local active Wikipedians to participate, including active users on Amharic Wikipedia (you can find the usernames of the top contributors to Amharic Wikipedia here - scroll to the middle of the page). Please let us know if you would like to discuss this pilot project idea in more detail. Additionally, if you're interested in learning more about the Wikipedia Education Program, Tighe can provide you with more information. You can contact us at grants"at"wikimedia.org. We look forward to hearing from you. Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 01:06, 23 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Nebiyu.s and Abel Asrat: Hello! I'm the program manager for the Wikipedia Education Program for the Middle East and Africa. If you would like to see if any of the support we can offer could help with your program or the design of your pilot, please let me know! Tighe Flanagan (WMF) (talk) 03:20, 28 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
@Abel Asrat:. Thanks for talking today. We're happy to hear that you're open to a pilot project and look forward to a new proposal. I will update the status of this proposal to "withdrawn". It will be saved and you can use it later. Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 16:21, 7 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Dear applicants, thank you for this application: we really need programmatic work in East Africa, but yes, this is too ambitious to start with.

Alex and her colleagues in grantmaking, and Tighe in education, would be very helpful in your planning. Please do contact them for advice, by email or skype. I'm sure they can phone you if it would help, and translations are possible where it would help you. Tony (talk) 13:37, 5 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
