Goals
[edit]Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
The project goals were met judging from our achievements. We hosted 3 edit-a-thons which featured a hybrid of 20 newbies and 5 beginners. We created new articles, uploaded photos showcasing the beauty of the state's local government secretariats to commons, added several reliable sources on articles, published articles under review and added more than 5000 words to english Wikipedia. It was great having the presence of Olaniyan Olushola, who skillfully led the training of the participants. The first till the mid-day of the second day of the training were used in equipping the participants with the wikimedia knowledge and skills. The rest of the second and third day were for creating articles, uploading images, citing reliable sources, improving lead sections and adding wikilinks. This was done with the guidance of Olaniyan Olushola and Ptinphusmia. Participants are now aware of wikimedia projects and how to contribute to Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons.

Learning
[edit]Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
Understanding and putting into consideration our local context was key in the success of the project. Going for a training space/venue that's abstract, that is a place that serves cocktail, attracted and encouraged participants to attend the three events. During break periods, we initiated playing of music to relieve them of stress and refresh their minds for the remaining part of training. We also had icebreaker sessions featuring how participants joined the wikimedia community and how they felt being part of the training. We provided charging sources for Participants' phones and laptops to avoid the exhaustion of phone/laptop battery during the training. People were appreciative of the training space, refreshments, charging of phones/laptops provisions, data provisions and event planning. We got a feedback from 10 people who said all these were a motivator for their attendance in the three events. Having an experienced Wikimedian (Olushola Olaniyan) on ground provided me the opportunity to check up on the participants to ensure they are all on the same page with what is being taught at any particular point in the training. We provided our WhatsApp group as a platform for Participants to share challenges and questions in the course of their editing after each day's training.
- What did not work so well?
However, the three days were too little a time to absorb all there is to know on editing, writing and uploading photos.
- What would you do differently next time?
Next time, we will like to have 6-8 events over a three months period in order to accommodate more time for training participants.
