Goals
[edit]Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
- We have achieved almost all the goals we set at the beginning of our project. In this way, we have been able to create new articles and improve existing articles in most Turkic Wikipedias. Thus, we have made a significant contribution to the popularization of Turkic culture through Wikimedia projects. In the marathon, took part both newcomers and experienced editors jointly created hundreds of new articles in projects. This shows that we were able to involve new volunteer editors in our project.
- We are pleased and satisfied with our success, which gave inspiration to the development of projects and programs of the Turkic community.
Outcome
[edit]Please report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.
Target outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
Number of participants: 50-60 | 82 | During the contest, 77 editors took part in 7 Wikipedias. It exceeded expectations, and that shows great interest in our contest. |
Number of new editors: 15-20 | 35 | By our count, 35 editors entered our contests for the first time, exceeding our original goal. |
Number of articles created or improved: 300-400 | 2179 | As a result of our contest, more than 2 thousand articles were created and improved in 7 Wikipedias. This is 5 times higher than our goal at the beginning of the contest. The absolute winner in creating new articles was the Azerbaijani Wikipedia (azwiki), where over 800 new articles were created. |
Learning
[edit]Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
- The complexity, the whole process of organizing the marathon went smoothly and can be assessed as successful. It should be noted that coordinating the marathon with different communities was flexible, and the distribution of prizes and gifts was well-planned. Also, it should be noted that some local organizers and communities were at the maximum with the organization of the process, which gave a good result in the form of the maximum contribution of the contestants.
- What did not work so well?
- Unfortunately, we couldn't include some of the Turkic communities, as we couldn't find active members from these communities who could help us locally. Also, in some of the communities participating in the marathon, activity was low, which was because the local community was generally not active and the local organizers were less coordinated in the process, which in turn was due to their lack of experience in organizing projects.
- What would you do differently next time?
- In the future, the organizing committee will act differently to address the above problems. In particular:
- a. We will hold meetings with local organizers of the marathon to provide them with more information and experience in organizing projects.
- b. We will actively interact with local communities to coordinate projects in their communities.
