Project Plan

[edit]

Activities

[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

We plan to organize series of Wikipedia training to equip the new members on how to contribute to Wikipedia and its sister projects.
We plan to organize an edit-a-thon to enable the trained editors to practice some of the knowledge imparted during the training.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

I will be partnering with the Department of Library and Information Science of the university on this project.
I have identified undergraduate students that will participate in the training at the institution.
I have informed the Wikimedia community about this project via its
  1. whatsapp group
  2. discussion page at Wikimedia User Group Nigeria

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

Information about the Wikipedia training and edit-a-thon will be disseminated using fliers and social media channels.
The participants will be onboarded in a WhatsApp group to ease communication in the community before, during and after the event.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals.
For example: User:I JethroBT

* Omorodion1 will join this project. He is an experienced Wikimedian who have facilitated and organized several Wikimedia related events in Nigeria, including the Open Semester Training for staff and students of Samuel Adegboyega University project and Photowalk at Edo State project. He is the co-organizer and facilitator of the Wikipedia Training and Edit-a-thon at the University of Port Harcourt.
  • Godstime Elijah will join this project. He is an experienced Wikimedian who have organized and facilitated several Wikimedia related events in Nigeria. His wealth of experience will greatly benefit this project. He is the current Vice President of the University of Ilorin Wikimedia Fan Club and the team lead for Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos Kwara.

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

The participants are newbies, so do not have the required skills. Hence the need for training before the edit-a-thon
The participants have their personal laptops which they use for academic activities in the university.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

I plan to create Whatsapp group for communication
I will create outreach dashboard for assigning of tasks and tracking of participants` contribution during the event.
Recruited volunteers will be admitted to the Wikimedia community in Rivers State. They will also be linked to their respective indigenous language Wikimedia groups.

7. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

: Yes, see link to the completed copy of the risk assessment tool [1]

8. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

The project will help increase active membership in the Wikimedia community in Rivers State.
