Project Plan
[edit]We have established a partnership with the Global Open Initiative Foundation who have been training our team on how to facilitate Wikipedia activities in Takoradi. We will leverage this partnership and work towards achieving another with the Main Library in Takoradi to organize two-hybrid edit-athon events, one more virtual training for our team, and a hybrid panel discussion.
Activities
[edit]Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or training?
One Virtual Training for our Team We have been receiving training from the Global Open Initiative team for two months now. We will organize a final virtual meetup between our team and some team members of the Global Open Initiative team to review, discuss, and correct articles our team has been working on.
Two-Hybrid Edit-a-thons We will organize a hybrid event, where we will have 10 participants present at our event space and 10 other participants joining us virtually via Zoom. There is going to be a Wikipedia and Wikidata training done, and after the training, participants will be assigned articles to work on.
One Panel Discussion The panel discussion will feature some incredible female Ghanaian editors from Ghana (Sandister Tei, Zita Ursula Zage, Joy Agyepong, Harriet Bayel, etc) and some of our outstanding participants. We will discuss their journey as Wiki editors, some challenges and victories they have encountered so far. The goal of this discussion is to boost the confidence of our newly recruited editors.
2. How will you let your community know about the event? Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.
- We will also be cross-posting the event across all our social media platforms including the following
https://web.facebook.com/iCODEGh https://twitter.com/icodeteam https://www.instagram.com/icodehub/
- We have announced this project [[1]]
3. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event?
- Our team is not quite experienced with organising Wikimedia events but we have a lot of experience in organising training and workshops as one of the best Technology hubs in the Western Region. We also have the support of the Global Open Initiative team(Harriet Bayel,Emmanuel Yeboah,Terese Baidoo,Zita Ursula Zage) who have been mentoring and training our team for the past two months.
- We have already started such training, here is a link to one of these trainings.
4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute to high-quality content? If not, how will you support them?
- We will provide laptops and a well-furnished space for 10 participants who will participate physically. In collaboration with the Global Open Initiative Foundation team, we will provide training to all participants.
5. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?
- We will create a WhatsApp group and with the permission of participants, we will add them to this group to track their progress and share resources to help them grow in the Wiki movement. We will also organize subsequent meetups to keep them engaged.
6. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:
- The number of participants that are going to be present physically is 10 and we will adhere to all COVID-19 safety protocols.
7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
