WLE Kosovo 2016 competition ran from 1-30 June. Preperations began in the last weeks of May with the grant being submitted on 26 May and was approved on 9 June.
The domain name http://wikilovesearth.al was secured for three years which will help by establishing a strong brand as well as by being an easy entry point for non-technical visitors. Hosting has been donated by User:Liridon. Overall, the following people contributed on the project: User:Arianit, User:Liridon, User:Margott (by sharing some of the resources with Albania), Violeta (finances), User:Olsi and User:Albinfo.
A jury of five was engaged: User:AT44 and User:Olsi (administrators at sq.Wikipedia), User:Albinfo (de.Wikipedia and Albania Commonist), Besnik Hamiti (photographer, TV producer and Wikipedian) and Shkrumbin Brestovi (FLOSSK member of the board and Wikipedian).
Despite our attempt to work with the Institute for the Protection of Nature Monuments to get coordinates of the monuments, our request was not answered. The list includes two national parks, some protections areas and many more monuments of varying relevance.
Several promotion channels were used. We sent press releases to media getting published in some of them such as Telegrafi.com, Koha.net and Koha Ditore daily and TV21 portal (also 1, 2, 3). We have also made a showing in TV RTK1 morning show and Radio Kosova 2. Furthermore, we promoted in Facebook (sq.wikipedia.org and Twitter (sqwikipedia). We also sent emails to some 100 people who had shown interest in photography events before. We however skipped on the in location presentations which we had hoped for.
Post-competition, the following media published the results Koha, Ekonomia Online, The Albanian and KultPlus
Awards provided to 10 winners included camera and computer storage which was appreciated very much by the photographers. We also printed their winning photos in 70 x 50 cm and 25 x 17 cm on forex material and handed to them.
Goals
[edit]Our goals were 500 photographs uploaded and kept after review, from at least 30 photographers, and with 20 newly created articles and 70 others illustrated and expanded further. The results are below.

Learning
[edit]This was the first time WLE was conducted in Kosovo. Overall WLE proved more challenging than WLM due to the remoteness of the monuments. Quality-wise we are happy, as well as with the extensive use of the photos on various Wikipedia projects, most certainly because this was the first time. Photo expeditions would help next time to identify monuments still to be covered.

Remaining funds
[edit]As can be seen from above, there is a remaining fund of 283.72 EUR. We propose to give you an answer on what to do with it in November when we will know how WLM realization has turned out. Will then likely suggest their use towards a new smaller project.
