Project Plan

[edit]

Activities

[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. What is your promotion plan?
You can do a campaign involving billboards or rickshaw announcements to promote a Wikimedia projects, such as Santali Wikipedia, at different places in a city. You can promote an online campaign such as Wiki Loves Monuments on Facebook, Twitter, etc using ads. You can also create gifs/slideshows or other easy to make multimedia files and use them to promote your project on social media.

With a large number of schools in Nigeria, the first phase of this project will concentrate on High schools located in Ikeja LGA, Lagos-Nigeria. My promotion plan is to organize Online and Offline promotional campaigns for the Wikimedia Projects for High Schools students and Teachers, promoting Wikimedia projects as a reliable learning resource. This will be carried out by organizing 10 school walk between September and October 2022 while school is in session. The 10 school walk will take place in 10 different schools located in Ikeja LGA. Senior students in SSS (Senior Secondary School) classes will be the target audience as they get to do more homework research. The teachers will also be enlighted on how Wikimedia projects can be used to gather materials and information on a subject. The participants will be taught how to use Wikimedia projects such as Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikispecies, and Wikivoyage when doing their research on a variety of topics as Wikimedia projects have millions of verified and reliable articles.

2. How will you let your community know about the promotion campaign?
Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.

  1. The project will be announced to Wikimedia User Group Nigeria mailing group and social media platforms
  2. I will share notifications with members of the Wikimedia Community in Nigeria via the official Facebook page Wikimedia User Group Nigeria official Facebook fan page
  3. With the support of Wikimedians from Wikimedia User Group Nigeria official Facebook fan page, Yoruba Wikipedia official Facebook fan page, Yoruba Wikipedia Community portal.
  4. I have curated the list of schools I have had an informal discussion with about the project and they have all shown interest in having such promotion for their students and teachers. After the grant is approved, I will send a formal email notifying the High School Principals of a set date of when the promotion will take place in their respective schools.

3.Do you have any experience in promoting Wikimedia projects either online or offline?
Were you involved in a similar project in the past? Do you have any other experience related to online/offline promotion?

Yes, I do. I have experience promoting Wikimedia projects, as I have led both the online and offline promotion of Nigeria Tranportation and Recreation project. Also as the former Event coordinator the Wiki Club, Lagos State University (LASU) I have worked on several projects.

4. What is your post-promotion plan?
What do you plan to do after your campaign ends?

  1. After the promotion, the participants would be onboarded to a Whatsapp and Telegram group where they can continually receive mentorship and training on editing Wikimedia Projects.
  2. They will also be added to the Wikimedia Nigeria Mailing list where they can get up-to-date information about happenings within the community.

5. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

Yes. View Risk Assessment here

6. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

Impact

[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more:

  1. Number of people reached = 500 (i.e. At least 50 students per school; 10 schools will be visited : 50 * 10 = 500)
  2. Number of campaign participants = 500
  3. Increase in pageviews and usage of Wikimedia projects

Youth Safety

[edit]
  • If the proposal indicates direct contact with children or youth, it also outlines compliance with international and local laws for working with children and youth, and provides documentation of the local laws in the annex.
Having gone through the National Youth Policy, I can confirm my full compliance with the laws of engaging the youths.
  • The proposal demonstrates how they will ensure the safe engagement of young people in all of the project’s activities.
I know how important it is to take extra precautions to ensure youth are safe. For this project we will commit to monitoring, chaperoning, and other support from the school teachers during this project. We plan on having the school staff who the students are already familiar with, take the role of ensuring that all the students are comfortable with involvement in any activity and are charged with ensuring that all young people have what they need and feel safe. While with the help of other staff will be organizing the event.
  • The proposal demonstrates that any adults who will be working in close contact with young people have been properly vetted and trained.
I am not bringing in any third-party adult in close contact with the young people except myself and the other facilitator I am working with on this project, B.Korlah. During the event, the school teachers will be present in the hall, as they are the ones that will be in charge of the student organization and monitoring of the students during the event in the school hall.
  • The proposal outlines an action protocol in the case that incidents occur relating to the physical and psychological safety of young people.
Since the events are being held in the school premises, the schools already have action protocol in place in case of such incidents.
