Hello :) I have been an active Wikimedian for many years and have served on many capacities in the Wikimedia movement, including as a member of the project grants committee (2016, rounds 1 and 2). I am currently the chair of the Brazilian affiliate Wiki Movimento Brasil and a member of the board of the Wikipedia & Education User Group. Project Grants - Round 1 2020 - Committee Candidate Statements
[edit]- I have been active on the Wikimedia projects for more than 8 years since 2011, and have been a grantee to a number of projects. I am a community leader who has led a number of Wikipedia and Wikidata workshops in my region. I'm involved in various structure groups of the Wikimedia Foundation, including the Wikimedia Foundation Board Election Committee, WikidataCon 2017 Program committee, Wikimedia Foundation Communication Committee, co-editor of the Wikimedia Research Newsletter and past member of the Wikimedia Volunteer Response Team. I've had the pleasure of working in the past as an intern with the Community Resources team of the Wikimedia Foundation, during which period I helped facilitate Wikimedia Foundations’s Funds Dissemination Committee deliberations, and supported Community Capacity Development research in emerging communities in the Global South. I'm currently a member of the leadership collective of Art+Feminism, which is an annual worldwide edit-a-thon to improve coverage of women and feminism on Wikipedia. The combined effect of these experiences has broadened my perspective of Wikipedia’s diverse demographic communities and given me a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by our volunteer community and partners. I also have a clear understanding of how the general public engage with crowdsourced projects like the Wikip[m]dia projects, and their perceptions of open-access information. In my personal life, I work as a university teacher in Ghana. I have in the past deliberated the impact of Wikimedia Foundation grants especially in the Global South, and I am looking for an opportunity to be able to add a voice to advance equity and diversity in the evaluation of Project Grants.—M@sssly✉ 13:02, 15 December 2019 (UTC)
Candidate: Celestinesucess
[edit]- I joined the Wikimedia Movement in July 2015, mostly writing articles about biographies of African women and organising projects to help train women especially on how to contribute content on Wikimedia Foundation projects.I have experience in writing, reviewing and submitting grants. Some of the projects I have led and helped organize include, Art and feminism, Wiki Loves Monuments 2016 and 2019, Wiki Loves Africa, Wiki Tours the North of Ghana, and Parliament of Ghana Edit-a-thon. I was also a part of the team that organised. Wiki Indaba 2017 in Ghana and led a workshop at the African Summit on Women and Girls in Technology. I am currently the regional ambassador for Art and feminism for Anglophone Africa. It would be a great pleasure and honour if given the opportunity to serve on the project grant committee. Being a female from the Global South, adding my voice and experiences to advance diversity and equality in the evaluation of project grants will mean so much to me and to a lot of young women from my region. Celestinesucess (talk) 12:50, 22 December 2019 (UTC)
I have been actively involved in the Wikimedia movement for more than 5 years with experience in project management, volunteer recruitment and retention. On Wiki, I have created hundreds of articles and i'm a permanent sysop on Yoruba Wikipedia and license reviewer on Wikimedia Commons. I have lead over 30 Wikimedia trainings/workshops and mentored at least 10 editors who are not only active in Wikimedia projects but also drive the Wikimedia movements in Africa. I am one of the two founders of Wikimedia User Group Nigeria (now Wikimedia Nigeria Foundation Inc.) and I am currently the Board Secretary of Wikimedia Nigeria Foundation Inc. In addition, I am a cofounder and executive member of Yoruba Wikimedians User Group. I cochaired Wiki Indaba 2019 and served as the Chair, Scholarship Review Committee (SRC). I have the relevant experience as I was formerly a member of the Individual Engagement Grant Committee (IEG) and I have the skills to assessing applications against a set criteria. The Wikimedia movement is unique for its diversity and resource allocation should be fair to all participating regions including the global south. I want to serve in the committee to uphold this fairness and to ensure that our limited resources are allocated for projects that are SMART. Thanks for your consideration. Regards. - I have been a member of the Wikimedia community for two years, and in that time I have integrated Wikipedia use and contributions into the courses I teach, working with the Wiki Education Foundation for support. I have also been an active member of the Wikimedia Movement Strategy Capacity Building working group and a member of the Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group, representing them at the Wikimedia Conference earlier this calendar year. I was recently elected to the Board of Wikimedia New York City, where I am happy to bring my professional experiences in writing, being awarded, and managing large governmental and nonprofit grants in my work experiences within training, knowledge management, and nonprofit board governance consulting support. I have worked on large grant-supported projects funded by the JPB Foundation and have also served as a volunteer reviewer for National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) educational grants through the U.S. Department of Commerce. As a trained researcher, I focus my grant reviews on the methodology presented for how awards will be spent to ensure the promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion, along with a robust evaluation plan so we know how grant applicants intend to measure the successful impact of their work. I hope to be able to bring these skills and interests to service of our global Wikimedia community. --- FULBERT (talk) 15:21, 15 November 2018 (UTC)

- I am Aotfs2013, a Taiwanese Wikipedian and an admin in Chinese Wikipedia. I have been an active Wikipedian since 2014. Over the past three years as a Wikipedian, I have made approximately 14,000 edits in the Wikimedia projects. In addition to the admin's work, I have been actively creating and amending the Wikipedia Policies and guidelines and updating the inaccurate articles in the Chinese Wikipedia. Apart from being the major editor in the “Chinese version” of Wikipedia Administrators' newsletter, I endeavor to promote the establishment of a reward system among volunteer editors in Wikipedia, the Wikipedia HONOR & AWARDS is my current focus project in Chinese Wikipedia.
- Apart from being a Wikipedian, I have worked for a number of large organization, such experience develops my skills and broadens my knowledge. As a result, I considered myself competent in certain aspects, even compared to veterans. First of all, I am eager to participate in the public affairs, which granted me experience in communicating with government departments.
- I worked as a consultant for “Taichung Public Transport Promotion Association” (TPTPA) a few years ago. As a consultant, my duty is to advise on proposing events of TPTPA and exchange ideas with colleges, communications between individuals is unavoidable. Thus, I had a deep understanding of message delivery and interpretation, and also a rich knowledge on the management of the non-government organization. Another thing which is worth mentioning is that the “National Academy for Educational Research” has approved my capability and has invited me to work there as a consultant since August 2017.
- Apart from my profession in different large associations, I have also worked as a market manager in an information company "T.ONE". I took charge of the product packaging, marketing and the web page design of "T.ONE". During the years that I have been in the company, I acquired abundant financial knowledge and manpower management skills. With my ability and experience, I think my participation will definitely bring numerous benefits to the Project Grants Committee.

I love to actively engage in community activities and other voluntary works wherever i find myself, which is why i am putting myself forward as a volunteer to the project grants committee. My involvement with the grant making process has been enriched through my experience as a grantee of several projects both in and out of the movement. I have managed several projects on behalf of the community in Ghana and I believe in the need to volunteer for a worthy cause hence been poised on contributing my quota in ensuring a better grant making process. Thereby I could gather a profound understanding of the diversity of needs and contexts of various Wikimedia groups and organizations and gain an understanding of the dynamics of their development over time.
