Lessons learned
[edit]
What lessons were learned that may help others succeed in similar projects? Consider the following questions and respond with 1 - 2 paragraphs.
What went well?
The pre-WEP planning by the WEP coordination team in Nepal and support from the WEP Education team members at the WMF gave great insight in design the WEP piloting in Nepal. The regular sharing, meeting and on-the fly improvisation of the small details of the WEP course content as per the WEP curriclum gave a live and resourceful flexibility to the WEP resource person and coordination team. Working on a broader schedule with clear role expected from each resource person and synchronization them with others by the coordination team proved vital for the participants. The practice of involving atleast two resource person peers for each session was also important to make the session more interactive and with divese view-points. Wikipedia Driving License (WDL) was very well received the Wikipedia learners. Various other variation like One week (10 hours), One day (7 hours) and Half day -Wiki-School (3 hours) sessions of WEP were also practiced. It was observed that all of these programs had different kind of output among the participants.
What did not go well?
The participation in all the WEP program were very enthusistic. Especially, the enthusiam was more entergetic in shorter period WEP, whereas it little less for longer duration WEP program like 12 weeks and one week. However, the outcome was almost the opposite. The number of contribution of the participants after the completion WEP program was higher than expected from those, who participated in the longer term WEP program, compaired to shorter term WEP program.
What would you do differently if you planned a similar project?
12 week WEP program was an resource intensive program. Both in terms of heavy time commitement from the WEP coordination team and the resource person during the peak office hours on the week-days. And the continuious engagement ofthe students during their study hours. We could complete the first 12 weeks WEP programs with extra effort at the Islington Colege, as it was their summer break. But finding another suitable college to commit for 12 weeks students and college time during the duration of 3 months in the credit hours was challenging demand. So, when we plan next WEP at such a greater extent, that we will need to plan and integrate the WEP program in the college schedule from the begining.
Also, having paid project staff to coordinate for time of the volunteer resource person. Wiki School communication (regular session) may be helpful for better communication, coordination and follow up with new Wikipedia editors.

What would you do differently if you planned a similar project?
For a time-bound program like WLM, it is more useful to prepare a time-schedule chart/calander with respective action plan and responsibilities of the team members so as to synchronize every move on the go and check back as necessary.

Activity : Enabling Internet facility For Outreach, Editathon and education programs

[edit]

Planned activites were:

At least two wireless devices and internet broadband package

Lessons learned
[edit]
What lessons were learned that may help others succeed in similar projects? Consider the following questions and respond with 1 - 2 paragraphs.
What went well?
The wireless internet service helped to tackle the problem of having scarcity of internet connectivity in many outreach places.
What did not go well?
COI in preference to the services, Volunteers involved in Outreach activities tried to purchase the packages in the early phase of the project implementation, other community members were not positive. Hence, as a resultant, some of the early bird outreach voluteers prefered to pay for these Internet packages from their own pocket inspite of provision made in the project grant document. Though, these packages were puerly used for Wikipedia Expansion program only.
What would you do differently if you planned a similar project?
Would try to reduce COI, Would request community members to discuss and understand the requirement during the grant discussion rather than preventing from implementing the approved grant program.

Lessons learned
[edit]
What lessons were learned that may help others succeed in similar projects? Consider the following questions and respond with 1 - 2 paragraphs.
What went well?
All open communities participated in collaboration.
What did not go well?
Wikimedians of Nepal community could not contribute towards financial contribution as was outlined in the project grant document and committed to the SFD organizing committee in advance. Due to difference of opinion among the Wikipedian of Nepal team members the allocated fund could not be contributed towards this noble cause. Which resulted in some bitter experince in enabling wider collabration possibility among the free communities in Nepal.
What would you do differently if you planned a similar project?
Will have more pre-event/ pre-activity discussions with open communities for possible collaboration.

Activity : Media for expansion projects (Video)

[edit]
What lessons were learned that may help others succeed in similar projects? Consider the following questions and respond with 1 - 2 paragraphs.
What went well?
Design and concept of future products
What did not go well?
Printing procedure became lengthy. Outreach volunteers wanted it to have and other did not. There were a lot of issues raised unnessirily. Difficulties faced to have dedicated volunteers to collect quotations etc.
What would you do differently if you planned a similar project?
Would prefer to have paid staff to coordinate to collect price lists, prepare design and have print out.

The choice of the multimedia projector was praised by all. Especially, the small, mobile size along with tripod made it a good choice for all kind of presentation venue. The inclusion of wireless keyboard, mouse, USB speaker, long VGA, HDMI cable made this kit a complete fail-proof kit for any kind of multimedia presenation (note: provided the electricity was available ;)
What did not go well?
Took very long period to purchase. Had to spend a lot amount for hiring projectors.
What would you do differently if you planned a similar project?
Would prefer to have paid staff to coordinate to collect price lists, find best product and purchase.
