Over the next six months, we will attempt to gain WMF recognition of our national chapter. To sustain the growth of Wikimedia projects, we will have more activities and outreach programs. We will conduct a series of outreach programs, mentoring programs to encourage university students and junior college students to contribute content to Nepali-, Newari-, Bhojpuri-, Pali-, Sanskrit- and English-language Wikipedias. We will develop necessary outreach materials like audio-visual and printed materials.

Project goals
  • Multiply and strengthen the community
  • Lead the movement towards sustainability.
  • Give the movement necessary environment and encourage community members to contribute to free-knowledge activities.
  • Publicize the community's work and provide public information about the wiki platform that is supporting the nation for developing free local content.

Measures of success

This is a project of the (proposed) National Chapter and the chapter shall observe the success by using the following measures.

  • Growth in number of edits in wiki projects Expected to increase the total edits from 350,000 to 370,000
  • Growth in number of active editors in existing Wiki projects in Nepal is expected to grow from 75 to 100
  • Growth in number of active women editors is expected to increase from 3 to 10.
  • Participation of people in WLM and Education projects. Expected to upload 2,000 photos of monument sites in Nepal.

This section describes what will happen if this project is funded. Who will do what, and when?

List of activities
  • Celebrating the 11th anniversary of the Nepali Wikipedia on June 3, 2013 (talks, hakathon, edit-a-thon, cake party; these will involve university professors, media workers as well as other four language wiki project volunteers and communities from 8 Nepali language wikis which are in incubation will participate.)
  • Wiki talks with individuals, academicians and organizations to sustain Wiki movements in Nepal.
  • Wiki-Wistar (outreach) programs
  • Wiki-edit-a-thons (At least 5 editathons will be organized in different venues).
  • Wiki education pilot project in two colleges. (Running in Islington College)
  • Wiki editing mentorship program through outreach and editathons.
  • Wiki Love Monuments A photo contest about the monument sites of Nepal. 10 people from the community will be involved and over fifty professional and amateur photographers are expected to participate in the program.
  • Wiki Women Initiatives (mentorship programs)

Requests for non-financial assistance
  • Support and advise to conduct the Wiki Love Monument program and education program.
  • We will need supplies for outreach from Wikimedia Foundation.
  • Printed materials and other merchandises (T-shirts, sticker, badge, calender, posters etc)
  • We'll need 25 T-shirts to encourage the winners of WLM, outreach persons and the top ranking editors.
  • We've contacted trademark at wikimedia dot org to request the use of Wikimedia's marks on our banners. (The answer for the trademark using request in banner of the 10th Anniversary was Silent)

Nepali Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Wikibooks as well as Newari Wikipedia, Bhojpuri Wikipedia, Pali Wikipedia, Sanskrit Wikipedia will be directly befitted from this program. This project is aimed to expand the community of Wiki in Nepal, which expects to increase the number and quality of the volunteers to contribute in Wiki projects. It will strengthens the editing skills of the existing editors by which International language Wikipedia specially English Wikipedia and other wiki projects will also be indirectly benefited by the project.

We believe this project will be a success.

After the end of the project we will have a team of at least ten skillful Resource Persons who will continue the outreach program more efficiently in the future. The number of active users will increase and the community will be more sustainable. The WLM program will increase the number of photo contributors in the Wikimedia commons and we'll have a different dimention of progress. The education pilot will increase the skills of the teachers and some students as well. This is expected to be the future strength of our community for growth of Wikipedia.
