Grants:IdeaLab/Reputation Points

Reputation Points
This is a currently existing system in some online forums, such as ones with software provided by vBulletin. Basically you get some Rep Points for time since you signed up, some for making a lot of posts (edits) and some from other users. Newby users can give points but they don't count unless they have made at least ten edits and received one positive Rep Point. Negative Rep Points are possible. I'm not sure who can see whose points, I do know users can see their own point totals but not who sent them.

[edit]What is the problem you're trying to solve?
[edit]Um, isn't this a request to deal with online harassment?
What is your solution?
[edit]Not that this will directly stop harassment, but if a user has accumulated a lot of Positive Reputations Points or Negative Reputation Points it could be useful in adjudicating disputes or simply judging if a user is generally liked or disliked.

[edit]- The point system employed by StackExchange has proven to be quite successful. David Condrey (talk) 07:13, 10 June 2016 (UTC)
This needs more specifics but some kind of numerical point system is likely to appeal to the sort of person who edits Wikipedia.Darkfrog24 (talk) 23:02, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
Opposition
[edit]- This is probably a duplicate of https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IdeaLab/Cumulate_Likes_and_Unlikes_to_automatise_harassment_limitations --Doveofsymplegades (talk) 09:14, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
- The more I think about this, the more concerns I have. It looks like it's likely to be abused. People who merely hold unpopular or less common views could be voted down, even if their behavior is not an issue. Darkfrog24 (talk) 11:01, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
