Reason | As the page name suggests, this appears to actually be multiple proposals, which should be submitted and considered individually. None of these projects described here seem likely to be accepted; in particular, the commercial services are incompatible with Wikimedia's educational mission. We all know that Wikipedia is not a manual, guidebook, textbook, or scientific journal, but could Wikimedia add such projects to its platform? Here are suggestions for five more Wikimedia projects.
What would make it much better than any other web hosting service is the ability to allow full use of interwiki wikilinks across all platforms. Ideally, if possible, the wikilinks would link directly to Wikipedia without any prefix.
I'm not sure how that would work. Would it work if the projects were directly under Wikipedia, rather than Wikimedia? I don't understand all the inner workings of these things, hence my bringing this suggestion here.
Imagine a Wikimedia version of Yahoo! GeoCities. Any web-based project deserves wikilinking to Wikipedia, thus making Wikipedia the de facto "Grand Central of all knowledge". I suspect that this would affect search engine optimization, moving Wikipedia nearer the top in every search for any subject.
These projects could also add more revenue to Wikimedia, as well as familiarize many more people with Wikipedia and editing.
Five suggested projects
[edit]1. Wikihow: for how-to/instructions. Financed with advertising. Unfortunately, wikiHow already exists as a separate business with no wikilinking. Could Wikimedia acquire it?
2. Wikihome: a non-business web hosting service for personal websites and blogs. Financed with advertising.
3. Wikipro: a business web hosting service for e-commerce. Financed with payment plans with or without advertising.
4. Wikisocial: for social media. Financed with advertising. (I'm not sure if this is really different from the existing Wikisocial or not.)
5. Wikitube: to compete with YouTube. Financed with advertising.

Proposed by Valjean
[edit]I have never proposed anything here before, so I would appreciate help and suggestions. I have edited Wikipedia since 2003, when we had under 500,000 articles, and first registered an account in 2005, but this is new to me. -- Valjean (talk) 18:10, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
Alternative names
[edit]Everything is up for grabs here. I expect that other editors will have many ideas for improvements, including better wordings and titles. -- Valjean (talk) 18:10, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
