Introduction

Culture Connect Africa: African Film & Cinema is an initiative that runs yearly by the African & Proud (AP) It focuses on celebrating and enhancing the visibility of African cinema and film heritage through various activities which including training sessions, edit-a-thons, and competitions. This program aims to engage participants in exploring and promoting the rich culture of African cinematic culture.

African film and cinema is an essential part of the continent’s cultural identity, reflecting its diverse stories, traditions, and modern realities. Despite its richness, African film and cinema often do not receive the global recognition they deserve, that is why The African Film & Cinema initiative seeks to change this by celebrating and enhancing the visibility of African cinema and film heritage. Through various activities, this project provides a platform for Wikipedians to be able to create, edit and Contribute towards enriching contents around African filmmakers, Actors, Directors and Film in Africa.

The Goal of This Project

The African Film & Cinema initiative is designed to:

  • Promote African Film Heritage: Showcase and preserve African cinema, ensuring that valuable films and documentaries remain accessible to a global audience.
  • Engage in Open Knowledge Contribution: Host edit-a-thons and competitions that improve the documentation and representation of African films and Cinema on platforms like Wikipedia and Wikidata.
  • Foster Community and Collaboration: Connect film professionals, researchers, and enthusiasts to exchange ideas, share resources, and build a strong network that supports African cinema’s growth.
