Improving the Wikimedia movement’s work with content partners

This page outlines the procedure for requesting support from the Helpdesk, and the process from there. All requests are of course unique, and this is a standard template.

Start the process

An overview of the process to request support from the Helpdesk, with a content upload as an example.

Initiate a Helpdesk support by sending a request to the Helpdesk on helpdesk(_AT_)wikimedia.se. Support can be anything from an actual batch upload, to getting support on initial advocacy for free licenses and perfecting the metadata. Don't hesitate to send a request or ask questions, even if you are not sure about all the details yet. The Helpdesk is here to help!

If you have some technical knowledge and experience from batch uploading, you can make a public request via the Commons Batch Uploading page. This makes the Helpdesk team's work a bit easier, but is not a must. Follow the instructions, and then send the public request to the Helpdesk email.

Guidance and prioritization from the Expert Committee

The Expert Committee (EC) will receive the request and discuss it at one of their monthly meetings. Note that all requests are discussed and answered; you will receive a reply. Approval and priority will however depend on criteria such as these.

Wikimedia Sverige staff and volunteers of the Helpdesk will gather the information needed for the EC to be able to make an assessment. You can see some of the initial questions in the "Justification" heading. When this information is gathered, the Expert Committee will give its initial feedback and recommendations on how to handle the request.

After the initial feedback is gathered, Working Groups will help the volunteers or affiliates requesting help to develop the project, according to the feedback of the Expert Committee and checklists. This work will be open and transparent and invite anyone interested to help out.

Project Implementation

When all boxes are ticked off in the checklist, the Expert Committee will give its final prioritization. Is the project ready to go? Is the project sustainable? If the Expert Committee gives a "yes", it is time for the project to be implemented, that is, the content is uploaded to the Wikimedia platforms and communities engaged in make sure it comes to best possible use.
