This proposal is a larger suggestion that is out of scope for the Community Tech team. Participants are welcome to vote on it, but please note that regardless of popularity, there is no guarantee this proposal will be implemented. Supporting the idea helps communicate its urgency to the broader movement.
Support for major multimedia tools: VideoJS, MediaViewer
Problem: Now there is a problem, the tools that everyone uses, which everyone sees every day, are completely devoid of support. They have problems with design, functionality, accessibility, code and they are not integrated with each other. All this affects the reader's experience and the overall vision of the style of MediaWiki.
Proposed solution: Select people who would maintain the product
@Iniquity: Thank you for submitting this proposal! I see that you provided links to Phabricator boards related to VideoJS and Media Viewer. The survey is meant to highlight specific problems. Are there any particular tasks that you would like to address in this proposal? — The preceding unsigned comment was added by HMonroy (WMF) (talk) 02:01, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Iniquity Could you reword your proposal to be about just one of those problems? Our FAQ goes into more detail as to what we're looking for as far as the scope of proposals. Alternatively, we can move this to our Larger suggestions category to get the attention of leadership, but this would mean it'd be out of scope for Community Tech. As currently written, your proposed solution of "Select people who would maintain the product" would make this a Larger suggestion. Community Tech is not able to assign teams or people to projects.
Unfortunately we have only until sometime tomorrow to get this proposal rewritten, if we want it to be in scope for Community Tech. Sorry to rush you! Thanks and regards, MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 18:56, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. You're probably right, but small tasks can also be picked up at Hackathons (there's one coming up in May, for example). But with your word, let's leave this as-is and move to Larger suggestions. Thanks for participating in the survey! MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 21:57, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose Completely agree multimedia needs more TLC, but this proposal is too vague and makes no suggestions at all on how to accomplish that. Husky (talk) 21:17, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Support The entire project definitely needs more dedication towards multimedia. Far beyond keeping the thumbnails and uploads working and some metadata on the side. —TheDJ (talk • contribs) 13:56, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
