Community Wishlist/Announcements/Multiblocks I
Improvements are coming to the Special:Block page on your local wiki, try it out and give feedback
[edit]Hello community,
As we prepare to fulfill the Multiblocks wish (the #14 wish from the 2023 Community Wishlist), Community Tech has redesigned the Special:Block page using Codex.
You are invited to test the refreshed block page on testwiki (you will need Administrator rights to do this, request it now) Alternatively, there is also a simpler method to test on your local wiki by adding ?usecodex=1
to the end of the URL to your local blocking page.
What’s new?
Once Multiblocks is introduced, you’ll be able to layer blocks, as well as edit or remove them, directly from the Special: Blocks page. See how:

- The block log has been repositioned towards the top of the page for improved visibility, and controls are now displayed in a vertically stacked layout for better usability.

- Written time intervals like “fortnights” can no longer be used to apply blocks.
These design changes serve as foundational steps for the upcoming Multiblocks implementation. They do not impact the block core functionality at this stage.
Multiblocks when released will offer more options for blocking, allowing admins to apply both a sitewide and a partial block at the same time. This may be helpful in situations where for a short time, a user needs to be prevented from editing at all, and long-term, they need to be prevented from editing specific pages or namespaces. Currently, the admin is only able to apply the second block when the first one expires.
Some communities may need policies or guidelines for using Multiblocks. We encourage you to start considering these needs. Community Tech is here to support your discussions and will also be actively listening to how communities wish to approach this.
Thank you for your patience as we work towards delivering this helpful new feature.
