Welcome to Central Kanuri Wikimedians Community User Group

Central Kanuri Wikimedians Community User Group is a user-group of Wikimedia editors dedicated to promote Wikimedia projects in Kanuri language and topics related to its people, culture, society, history and beyond. We will also help, encourage and educate Kanuri-speaking users and communities on the importance of open source, knowledge sharing and other educational initiatives through the training and events which the group will be organizing. The group is open to membership by interested individuals with shared interests.

Objectives

  • To promote Wikimedia projects
  • To promote editing of Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects both in Kanuri and other languages.
  • To engage and encourage more Kanuri speakers to become contributors of the Wikimedia projects.
  • To organize in-person events for local community Wikipedians/Wikimedians by providing them with resources needed to enhance both their skills and ability for the development of the Wikimedia projects in Kanuri language and other Wikipedia sister projects.

Activities

The user group will be organising

  • Meet-ups for its members in order to exchange ideas and to find ways to support them to continue editing the projects in areas where they would need help.
  • Edit-a-thons to help new Wikipedians learn editing techniques, to create, translate and improve the content in all Wikimedia projects or work on and develop a certain topic which will in return promote the project.
  • Editing contests the group will be organizing editing contests to encourage existing regular editors to keep editing Wikimedia projects and also encourage non-members/users to join.
  • Photographic Contest and trips the group will also organise trips and contests to encourage users to upload and document files to commons which will be used in all Wikimedia projects.

Partnership

Wikimedia Sister Projects and User Group Affiliates are in collaboration with each other towards developing Wikimedia sister projects and the willingness of contributing free knowledge and sharing it across the world, also, Affiliates are freely allowed to collaborate and work together with the existing Affiliates as individuals, groups or organization in provision of progress in entire Wikimedia Movement align with Wikimedia activities. Most of the existing Affiliates in Nigeria have been notified in their talk pages for unity, collaboration and understanding, starting by Wikimedia User Group Nigeria, Hausa Wikimedian User Group, Igbo Wikimedian User Group, Yoruba Wikimedian User Group and Nigerian photographer's user group.

The Community have been growing immensely in the incubator since 2022, and we finally got our own domain on 1 February 2025.
