[edit]Description - The Wiki Loves Mato Grosso Wikicontest is a wikicontest (editing competition) on the Lusophone Wikipedia. It is part of a series of activities that will take place throughout 2024 within the scope of the "Wiki Loves Mato Grosso" project, conceived and carried out by the Wiki Movimento Brasil User Group (WMB). [edit]Central Notice admin comments
[edit]- @EPorto (WMB): I've created the campaign and banner (preview). As you can see, I have removed the prize money as there are concerns by the WMF that this wouldn't match with volunteer activites on Wikimedia projects (see CentralNotice/Request/African Film and Cinema 2024 and @Astinson (WMF):). Please check everything and ping me for approval and activation. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 16:53, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, @DerHexer, thank you for your work on this. I want a clarification first, if you don't mind. As I see, @Astinson (WMF) individually raised concerns, and you are saying WMF has concerns. I would like to ask @Astinson (WMF) if this is an impression or is backed up by some data that WMF is aware of it and we aren't. I ask this because, on the contrary to these new statements, the banner as it is proposed (and has been proposed like this for more than a couple of years now) has been proven to be effective to attract people to our wikicontests. Cheers, EPorto (WMB) (talk) 16:19, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @EPorto (WMB) we have multiple reports that leading with monetary motivations as a headline has lead to some challenging behavior and increased management of on-wiki community relations (including a need for significant changes in rules for campaigns like WPWP and managing lots of mass-created poorly translated content in India), moreover I would be happy to talk risk, prizes and brand off line (astinsonwikimediaorg). Calling an event a contest, and describing that there are some rewards or prizes is fine -- putting specific monetary amounts without the rules for the contest is a bit more risky. - Hello, @Astinson (WMF). My point on this was if this is a policy or was just based on the African Film and Cinema 2024 case.

- I'm not doubting the information, but nonetheless, I would like to have something more tangible and formal backing this statement up; As I said before, the banner is proven effective in our wikicontests.
- If it will become an issue of changing the proposed banner and our communication message, I would like to have it laid down publicly. I recon this is not yet written in the rules or guidelines for the Central Notice? EPorto (WMB) (talk) 01:00, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
- Its a general recommendation from me, not a formal policy. But when we revisit policies for community banners, its also a discussion I hope to do with the banner admins -- since most of these decisions are made by folks like DerHexer. Ultimately community lead banners have a lot of variability, thus each needs to be evaluated differently, but I am advising the admins that we should be really cautious about leading with promises of certain kinds of prizes. - Hello @DerHexer I'm approving the modified banner. Thank you for your work! Cheers, EPorto (WMB) (talk) 00:50, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
- Okay, I've enabled the campaign. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 21:41, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @DerHexer. I've noticed that the campaign was moved to the Approved & Work in progress (diff) but then marked as closed (diff) and it does not appear in the table. Is everything alright with the banner? Cheers, EPorto (WMB) (talk) 02:27, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
- @EPorto (WMB): The campaign hasn't changed, no worries. I was just too dumb to distinguish March and May when I worked through the list of campaigns there. I've re-added it and changed the category here. The campaign would have run, but thanks for the open eyes anyway! :) Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 11:25, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
