[edit]
Description - Wiki Loves Sport 2020 is a multilingual international campaign to write on Wikipedia about sport in general and women in sport in particular. The event is organized during the planned Tokio 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, rescheduled in 2021 for the COVID-19 pandemic. The event will take place online from 24 July to 6 September 2020, but our request of site notice is from 15 August, in order to not overlap with Wiki Loves the Olympics 2020 organized by the colleagues from WMES. We will be self-funding postal cards to all those who write 5 or more qualifying articles in their own languages.

Metrics - New or Improved articles, we will use Dashboard tool for the metrics

What banner(s) will you use? What will be your landing page?

Discussion

[edit]
  • @Camelia.boban: The targeted countries field has not been filled in. Could you please clarify which countries this campaign will target? Thank you. (Also, I'd advise against using the word "promote" anywhere in the banner, due to its problematic associations in a Wikipedia context.) --Yair rand (talk) 19:19, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Yair rand: I used another word instead of "promote" and add the countries: ideally all as is an international edit-a-thon, but could be enough only some e.g. Italy, Switzerland, USA, Spain, Romania, India. Thank you, --Camelia (talk) 21:41, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Camelia.boban: Hello, as this is going to be an international campaign, please add some translations via [1], so the banner will appear localized. Also, please specify what "multiple languages" and "multiple countries" means, we need to know precisely where do you want to have this enabled. If anywhere, just fill in "all countries/projects/languages" :-). Thanks and let me know if you have any questions, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 20:38, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You can also preview the banner at [2], and review it. Thanks, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 20:39, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Both done (all countries/projects/languages + banner translations), thank you :-). --Camelia (talk) 22:52, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Yair rand and Martin Urbanec:, we are on August 18th, any news on this? Thank you. --Camelia (talk) 22:25, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Done @Camelia.boban: Hello Camelia, sorry, I forgot about this one. Enabled as [3], let's see how it goes! --Martin Urbanec (talk) 21:53, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry @Martin Urbanec:, I cannot see any banner on any project. Is something else that is needed to be done? --Camelia (talk) 15:26, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I've made a mistake when enabling the banner. Should be now fixed. Can you test? --Martin Urbanec (talk) 16:01, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Today, I (Location: Austria) see the banner in German language Wikipedia. The banner text is in absurd nonsensical spam-like machine translation German wording. Please stop the banner in German language Wikipedia promptly. —Niki.L (talk) 03:32, 21 August 2020 (UTC) @Camelia.boban: @Martin Urbanec:Niki.L (talk) 03:36, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Please stop this banner on cywiki / Welsh. We reached gender neutrality 3 years ago! Secondly, I've requested many times that NO English only banners be placed on cywiki. This is a Welsh wiki, and foreign languages are nothing but spam. Llywelyn2000 (talk) 05:05, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Martin Urbanec: As with previous banners, it would be very helpful to require certain notifications to be made on central pages of the Wikipedia that the banner is supposed to run on, as you can see from the reactions above. Braveheart (talk) 09:44, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Disabled for de.wiki and cy.wiki. I apologize for lack of message, I will think more about that with future central notices. Thanks, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 15:14, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Is cannot see it in various other wiki, where we have participants and/or coordinators: ar, hy, hi, bn, he etc. Ok, me too, I will learn more about central notices in the future ;-). --Camelia (talk) 19:18, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Another thing: I had a discussion with some users on the talk page. Someone suggested to change the text of the banner, in order to be clearer that anyone is welcomed and no discrimination towards men is in act. How can I do it? Thank you, --Camelia (talk) 19:30, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You can't, only CN admins can change english text (and needs to approve translations as well). Feel free to post the new text here, I'll change it (but that'd require new row of translations). --Martin Urbanec (talk) 00:11, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Martin Urbanec: OK, on the talk page was suggested this: "Join a multilingual online edit-a-thon about sport to help Wikipedia grow! Wiki Loves Sport 2020!". A good idea, so nobody has anything to be angry about or to accuse of SJW garbage 😄. Thank you --Camelia (talk) 12:31, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Camelia.boban: Just FYI, pings don't work unless they're added in the same edit as the one that created the comment. (Re-pinging @Martin Urbanec:.)--Yair rand (talk) 19:26, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, any updates on the text banner change? --Camelia (talk) 13:51, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
