Banners - https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wiki_Loves_Folk_Logo.svg, as logo. The banner could be something like this, with the text: El concurso Wiki Loves Folk ha comenzado ¡Sube tus fotos de fiestas de interés turístico hasta el 30 de noviembre! It would be great to be able to translate it into the other languages of Spain, so if I add the text in English, it can be made translatable?

@Rodelar: there are several requests for global notices in November, as you can see on this page and more over in the calendar. Please plan your banner carefully: per our guidelines, the banners need to be as little intrusive as possible. You could consider doing a banner for one day, twice in a week for instance. That would also work against banner-blindness, which occurs when there's is always a banner visible and people will not notice the banner any more. Please explore all different kinds of possibilities for our banners (for instance: geo targetting/project targetting/language targetting/combinations of these options): Help:CentralNotice. @Ciell: thanks for your comments. WLF is a contest that this year celebrates its fifth edition, and so far there were no problems with the community. Another campaign that coincides with it is the Wikipedia Asian Month, but in the case of Spain we are also the organizers, so there is no conflict in that sense either. Finally, in relation to geo targetting, we have indicated only for users in Spain. --Rodelar (talk) 16:22, 30 October 2020 (UTC)

@Rodelar: Yes, well: the fact that WLF has had a tradition of using the CN banner to promote the contest annually might not be sustainable forever. There are more yearly competitions then just WLF, WLM, WLE, and we should really make a habit of consulting the community before you request a banner, as it is said in our banner guidelines. But as long as the community in Spain does not object, I'm usually okay with this - except for targeting anonymous users though, that really needs more consideration.

So to summarize: how did you consult the people in Spain if they were okay with this, or could you please ask? And why would you like to target anonymous users? Please bear in mind that targetting ip's only rarely should be used, in case we have a very urgent matter to communicate to them.

@Ciell: I understand what you are saying in relation to community consulting but the truth is that, at least in eswiki, no community consulting has taken place before launching a banner; I am not talking only about this particular contest (Wiki Loves Folk), but any other banner, either from WMF or from other affiliates, and so far there was never any problem with it. In relation to anonymous users, we believe it is useful since it can encourage people who do not collaborate with Wikimedia to learn about the contest, create an account, participate, etc. --Rodelar (talk) 10:19, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

Well, WMF is the owner of the platform, and their banners are kind off essential to the people they target in their banners (most of the time at least). And yes, I think it would be a good practise for the organizers of other competition to start talking to the communities they target as well. Having done something the same way for years already, should not be a reason to not give people a chance to give feedback.

I'll set a limited diet for this year, but please start talking to the community on time next round. If they have nothing to say, I'm totally fine with it. Ciell (talk) 20:48, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

You are asking for all languages: are you going to translate the landing page in any other langauge? Otherwise I would advise to only target the countries own languages and dialects. Ciell (talk) 20:52, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

@Rodelar: The banner is shown 6 times per day to every user. I'll turn off impressions for anonymous users this weekend (because I do not want to overuse the banner). We can do another two days of targetting this group again later this month for instance? Ciell (talk) 10:26, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
