[edit]Discussion
[edit]- @Anthere:
- Is the CentralNotice intended to be run at different times in different parts of the continent, or is it intended to run across the whole continent for two months straight? That seems very long for a regular contest.
- The page on Commons says the contest will be from Feb 15 - Apr 15. Why is the CentralNotice request for between Feb 1 - March 31?
- (Not directly related to the CentralNotice request, but the page on Commons also mentions direct cash prizes, which IIUC are not permitted. Are those listings supposed to be for vouchers or some such?)
- Sorry for waiting until so soon before the start to comment. --Yair rand (talk) 07:37, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
Hello Yair.
- Time set has been move to 15th Feb per populate vote and to accomodate other contests. There are no perfect solutions. But I confirm it starts Feb 15 (I will go fix that date). So we are not yet late in setting up the banner ;)
- Usually... the site notice administrators choose when it runs, how often and with what pressure depending on the other topics that needs visibility. The most possible, the best. But we will go with what is possible (I have not checked what will coincide, but I know that Wiki Loves Folklore runs in Feb and that there will be Gender-gap related announcements in March. So...
- What does IIUC means ? Is that a new rule ? I know that the national prizes for WLA are topped. The international prizes have been approved by WMF when they approved the WLA budget. They have not mentionned it should be in-kind. Can you provide any link so that I explore the issue ? Thanks Anthere (talk)
- @Anthere: IIUC just stands for "If I understand correctly". :) I see that the guidelines for both rapid and project grants say that "Cash prizes for contest or other competition winners" are "Not eligible for funding", contrasting with "Certificates, gift cards, books, photo equipment, etc." as prizes that can be funded. I don't see anything about it in the APG rules, however, and I'm not as sure if there are general rules for it outside of grant restrictions. (I do recall that last time the topic came up on enwiki VP, when there was a miscommunication leading people to think that cash was being given out as prizes in a different contest, some people were pretty upset by the thought. At least one person wanted to ban vouchers as well, IIRC, but nobody made a full proposal for it.) --Yair rand (talk) 21:51, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
