Discussion

[edit]

I received this request by the organizers of the Webinar in the French speaking community within a grant supported by Wikimedia CH. I can handle the administration of this banner myself, no intervention necessary from other CN admins. --Ilario (talk) 16:12, 1 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Ilario: Sure, please link the campaign and banner here as it is standard practice and seek for approval from a non-WMCH related CentralNotice admin. I am happy to take a look at it soonish when I am pinged. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 21:43, 11 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@DerHexer thank you, the campiagn is set here. The banner is already associated. I only prolungued half day my request as I have been informed that also last minute subscriptions will be accepted. Ilario (talk) 11:04, 13 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I have enabled the campaign with slight changes. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 11:13, 13 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Like Ilario, I think that the more the better (without hammering, still) as the audience is not very large. Kirham (talk) 14:45, 13 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Dear @DerHexer Thanks! I went ahead and fixed the banner visibility for anonymous users, as that wasn’t originally intended. That said, I noticed not just a minor adjustment, but a rather significant change: from what I can tell, the impression diet was modified to 7 days before the banner is shown again. This would mean a user sees the banner only 8 times over two weeks (if I calculated right – 604,800 seconds = 168 hours). Given that the banner is running only in French-speaking Switzerland, I don’t see such a strong overlap with other campaigns that would justify this level of restriction. I’d have expected a discussion before applying such a major change, especially since I had originally set it to show every 12 hours. Assuming this may have been an oversight, I’ve now reduced the interval to 86,400 seconds (24 hours). Also, just to clarify: this banner refers to a governance matter, not an event – it’s about an internal community policy. Based on the guidelines, it seems that campaigns like this are typically configured by chapter-connected admins, while CentralNotice volunteers can suggest changes.
