What countries will your campaign target?

What is the purpose of the campaign? How will you measure the success of the campaign?
[edit]See also the second part of the requested CN campaign.
Metrics - The results of the fundraising campaign will be known only in January 2023 (due to tax payments deadlines and processing time) and will be aggregated (so, included also our other fundraising activities). So we will not be able to determine what part of our funds raised comes from this CN campaign. As we will analyze web traffic, we will be able to determine which part of the traffic come from CN and which from other sources. We expect, that more than 90% of the traffic will come from CN. This is the first time we are asking for CN for such fundraising, so it is hard to foresee the results. But generally we go for at least 2 000 euros raised. We are experimenting with email opt-in in our landing page and hope to collect at least 50 emails.
What banner(s) will you use? What will be your landing page?

Is this project grant funded? Please provide a link

The grant is supplementary to the CN request - they do not require each other.
Discussion
[edit]Local community anouncements: Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Wikisource, Wikiquote, Wikibooks, Wikidata, Comons, Wikispecies.
- Just for clarity for those not involved in past: This request is done for WUG Esperanto and Free Knowledge (ELiSo). WUG Wikimedians of Slovakia (WMSVK) is a different User Group and different organisation. The two organisations are based in the same country and some key persons know each other.
- @Seddon: WMSVK was not consulted about this request. The two organisations are working separately and doing their fundraising separately. An example can be last year's WMSVK request to use Slovak Wikipedia's SiteNotice - ELiSo was not consulted (and I am OK about that). Both our organisations are required by its respective Bylaws to create an Annual agenda, and I am using this as the main mean of coordination (see ELiSo's Annual agendas and WMSVK's Annual agendas).
- "issues raised prior": Well, it depends on which specific issues. There was a lot of issues raised in past. If you would list issues that are relevant to this request, I can provide you an update.
- If it is problem that it is me who requested this, please let me know so I can solve it! --KuboF Hromoslav (talk) 13:12, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
- There are two issues:
- The less complex issue is one of community consensus. Given the geographical overlap is so strong between country and language I think there is a strong need to notify the Slovak Wikipedia community of this request. Would you please leave a notice on w:sk:Wikipédia:Kaviareň notifying the community of this discussion or I would be happy to leave the notice myself.
- The more complex one is it is not clear who should running such campaigns in Slovakia to receipt of funds raised via the tax campaign year to year. My hope by raising the above was that this would have already been resolved before coming here. The fact that it isn't means this request is more complex than I would expext and I'm not sure it can be resolved in the next few weeks with sufficient speed to allow the WMF to complete the contract process. - There are two issues:
- @Seddon and JBrungs (WMF): I have just informed the Slovak Wikipedia community.
- When it comes to who should run the campaign, just for context, there are about 14 000 organisations receiving funds thru this campaign. It is know in Slovakia that organisation are, basically, competing to receive it. I see it very plausible that multiple Wikimedia organisations can participate in the campaign with help from WMF, e.g. in form of CentralNotice, in the (more or less) same time. No big deal. Mostly we should be sure that the limit of max 2 campaigns in the same location and language in the same time is respected. If Wikimedians of Slovakia is interested of using CentralNotice, they can request it. --KuboF Hromoslav (talk) 19:56, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
- @KuboF Hromoslav: please retract that last paragraph. This is not the venue for you to making such comments. Seddon (talk) 20:09, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
- Paragraph removed. After reconsideration I agree. This request is for WUG ELiSo, indeed, not for WUG WMSVK. --KuboF Hromoslav (talk) 14:28, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @KuboF Hromoslav and User:Martin Urbanec,
- I tried to follow the discussion on the Slovak community board but I am not sure Google translate was much help. Once there is an outcome, could you please let me know so I can see what the next steps, if any, from WMF's side would be? Thank you, JBrungs (WMF) (talk) 10:12, 20 January 2022 (UTC)

- @JBrungs (WMF): Just a quick thing: This CN request is for all projects, not only Wikipedia. Bit substantial discussion occurred only on the Slovak Wikipedia. There was no discussion on the other noticed projects (indeed, the notice was presented 4 days ago). --KuboF Hromoslav (talk) 12:07, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @KuboF Hromoslav,
- Could you clarify this for me? You would like to run banners on all projects when accessed from Slovakia? Either way, we will need community consensus that the Slovak community is ok with running this before we can proceed with the legal details. JBrungs (WMF) (talk) 12:25, 20 January 2022 (UTC)

- JBrungs (WMF), the original intent was to run CN on all projects in slovak language for people in Slovakia. In my opinion it does not have enough sense to cut off most of the projects, even despite Wikipedia is the most visited. But I have reconsidered it and now I am proposing running it on all projects in all languages for people from Slovakia. The rationale is that many people eligible to donate in the campaign (so, working in Slovakia, or at least family members of them) are visiting wiki projects in other languages, notably Czech, Hungarian and English. In the lack of better data I assume that such people are much more numerous that people non-eligible for donation that are in Slovakia for some reason (like tourists, or for business). Is in such case needed confirmation of other communities too? If so, which ones? --KuboF Hromoslav (talk) 12:56, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for the further details. As said above, you will need community consensus first before we can start discussing with the User Group and WMF about the legal details. Please do ping me once a community consensus has been reached. JBrungs (WMF) (talk) 14:59, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- Hello @JBrungs (WMF), since I can understand the Slovak language, I'm monitoring the discussion @KuboF Hromoslav started at sk.wikipedia. So far, the consensus seems to be against enabling a fundraising banner by the Esperanto kaj Libera Scio user group. I recommend the CN request is declined. Sincerely, Martin Urbanec (talk) 13:18, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

Central Notice admin comments
[edit]On hold This will require WMF review & approval per guidelines. CC @JBrungs (WMF): who helped with similar request before. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 14:27, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
Comment some context that will need to factored in includes: that Wikimedians of Slovakia, the local geographic affiliate, has previously utilised sitenotice to participate in this same campaign; that there is a complex prior history involving the requestor and Wikimedians of Slovakia. I'm looking for some indication that Wikimedians of Slovakia have been consulted about this request and that issues raised prior have been resolved. Seddon (talk) 01:53, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
