Discussion
[edit]@DerHexer: Ich versuche mich gerade zum ersten Mal an einem Banner und hoffe, der Antrag passt so in etwa! Bei Fragen oder Hinweisen natürlich jederzeit gern melden - und vielen Dank! --Allwetter (talk) 10:09, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Allwetter, have you notified the German Wikipedia of this discussion? Vermont (🐿️—🏳️🌈) 02:05, 18 June 2023 (UTC)
- I'm also a bit concerned about the landing page, which is a section of a page listing hackathon locations and dates. Remember that this will be shown to thousands of anonymous editors who may not know much if anything about how Wikipedia works; what a hackathon is, how to edit, what a community meet-up is and how it works, etc. Recruiting people to edit for the first time is generally not done via CentralNotice banners; to target newcomers, it might be best to limit the banner to logged-in users under a certain edit count, maybe 200 or 300. Vermont (🐿️—🏳️🌈) 02:16, 18 June 2023 (UTC)
- Navigating to the registration link...it seems this is limited to people between the age of 18 and 40? There's also a note that implies it's limited to people who are students or work in a science-focused field.
- Additionally, the signup form asks people to justify why they want a spot at the Hackathon...are there limited spots? The proposed banner text gives the impression that this is an open event where people can show up and learn how to edit and work towards a goal at the same time, it doesn't imply that they'd be applying to attend.
- I'm not sure if we should be using a CentralNotice banner for advertising this event. Vermont (🐿️—🏳️🌈) 02:31, 18 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Vermont, thank you very much for your helpful messages! In light of your questions, I think you are probably right that a banner might not be as suitable for reaching potential participants as I had thought - not least because the hackathons are, indeed, several-day events for a limited number of participants (we have a limited budget and limited capacities and want to take good care of everyone) and it would be difficult for the format if people show up spontaneously or only for a few hours. Is there a standardized way in which I can withdraw the request?
- No problem @Allwetter:, I've closed your request. Thanks for responding! Ciell (talk) 17:17, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
