Project description | It will be a project similar to Wikicities -> Wikia -> Fandom, and the scope will be exactly the same as a open to all collaborative wikifarm that allow people to write whatever they want.
Previously, many proposals that are deemed not in line with goal and vision of existing WMF projects and not in line with current WMF policies are sent to other wikifarms, mostly to wikia, including content that can be valuable knowledge. However since Wikia is a for-profit enterprise, over the years it have been slowly transforming its role to become social network oriented, as reflected in its change in name, and also the more entertainment-oriented potentially-unwanted content across its site. As a for-profit enterprise, Wikia is also reducing its dependency on the Mediawiki platform, stopped updating its mediawiki installlation and inventing a lot of its own tool to proprietarily establish its own ecosystem. On the other hand, other wikifarms lack the necessary fame to centralize content creator around the world. Therefore, it will be beneficial to the world if WMF can help establish a wikifarm that will remain as a wikifarm to the world in foreseeable future to host different kind of content with an updated and compatible version of Mediawiki, and all those valuable knowledge that might not fit in other existing WMF projects can also be keep in such system. Because it may not be directly obvious that that what people add into such kind of wikifarm project will fit in the WMF's vision to host the knowledge of the world, I would suggest such project should be establish in a way that would be financially independent despite being monitored by WMF. This way if any revenue can be stem from such project it can also be used to boost the development of other WMF projects. |

[edit]- Support/Pour/mi tugni: My vision of this would be hosted by a separate non-profit organization and use a separate SUL system, but would share the MediaWiki public alpha versions used by the WMF, as well as the dev team. Lojbanist (talk) 22:14, 20 May 2018 (UTC)
- Support - I hate Wikia's skin and laggy TwitFace rip-offs so I'm all for this. --Rock-O-Jello (talk) 22:51, 2 June 2018 (UTC)
