Wikispeech/Communicate your support
Wikispeech – show your support!
Do you want to help us spread the word about Wikispeech? There are plenty of ways in which you can help. Any means of communication – internal, external, in English, Arabic, Hebrew, Yoruba or Noongar, blog post, tweet or video – is helpful! Below we list a few concrete ways in which you can help. Do you have other ideas? Feel free to reach out to us!
Tell a friend about Wikispeech (15 minutes)
We want Wikispeech to be implemented in its beta version as soon as possible. Do you share our wish? We need to establish Wikispeech firmly within the community, and make sure that people share our commitment before it is finally rolled out. Do you want to help us make that happen? Spread the word about Wikispeech! If you don't have the time for a more comprehensive commitment, there are several small tasks you can do.
- Ask another Wikimedian to support the mission!
- Do you know someone who would benefit from Wikispeech? Help connect us with them, and help them share their story!
Tell your community about Wikispeech (30 minutes)
To integrate Wikispeech in Wikimedia platforms, we need the support from the respective communities. We need to start the conversation, and spread the word to communities so that the movement understands the importance. Do you want to help us with this endeavor?
- Become a Wikispeech supporter! Add {{User Wikispeech}} to your user page.
- Write a post on the mailing list, chat group or village pump of your Wikimedia community. You can find a few drafts here!
- Inform the board or leaders of your user group or chapter, and ask them to get involved.
- Ask for the opportunity to say a few words on the project during an annual meeting or gathering of your community.
Help us spread the world to the global movement (1 hour)
We need Wikispeech ambassadors, that can bring awareness about the project and its potential across the Wikimedia movement. You can become one, too!
- Communicate about Wikispeech on relevant mailing lists and in relevant chat groups, on platforms such as Telegram, Facebook, IRC and Wikimedia Chat.
- Find new venues for conversations around Wikispeech. Is there a meeting on the SDGs? You can talk about Wikispeech as a means of accessibility and diversity. Is there a community conversation around disabilities or structural barriers to Wikimedia? Wikispeech will be the perfect subject to bring up! Keep your eyes open, and take the opportunity to inform about Wikispeech when you can.
Explain why Wikispeech would be important on our blog (2 hours)
Give your explicit support to Wikispeech, and help us in the global communication around the project.
- Write a blog post to Wikimedia Sverige's blog, on why you think Wikispeech matters.
- Write a blog post to diff.wikimedia.org, adapted for the global Wikimedia movement.
- Find other venues of external communication: social media, podcasts, blogs etc.
Contact an NGO and ask for their support (3 hours)
Help us engage civil society! Reach out to NGOs, departments, institutes, universities and other venues where there might be people interested in the project, and ask for their support. Perhaps they want to be involved in the long term, as well?
