About the event

Wikipedia Asian Month is an annual Wikipedia contest focused on promotion of Asian content in different language Wikipedia. Each participating community runs a month-long online edit-a-thon every November at their local language Wikipedias and create new content about Asia except their own country. Participation is not limited to Asian communities.

The first iteration of this competition began in 2015 and each year, the article counts and participating communities have diversified and expanded. In the past three years, over 20,500 high qualities articles have been added in more than 50 language Wikipedia by more than 2000 Wikipedia editors.

As a part of friendship and culture exchange of Wikipedia Asian Community, participants who create at least four articles receive a special Wikipedia Postcard from another participating community.

How to Participate

As an Editor

  • Find the language edition of Wikipedia you would like to edit below,(on participation)
  • Register for Wikipedia if you have not done so.
  • Choose articles about themes and topics related to Asia, but not from your native country, and start creating articles.

As an Organizer

  • Set up and run the contest on a local level within your language community.
    • If your local Wikipedia is already participating, ask if you can help judge articles if you are interested.
  • Engage local editors and aim for maximum participation.
  • Organize online and offline events for contest promotion and increase in participation.
  • If you have expertise or skills in public relations, then you can help us get media coverage.
