Wikimedians of Mainland China/Postcards and merchandise request

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

As a reward to participants of Wikimedians of Mainland China's activities, the WMC is mailing postcards and other merchandise to eligible recipients. This page details the procedures for applying one and what to expect.

Recipients in mainland China

[edit]
  • Postcards: Postcards will be delivered through China Post's registered mail service. Estimated delivery nationwide within 4 days, with remote regions in 1 week; next day delivery if you live close to the region where it would be mailed. China Post's conventional mailing has a similar ETA to a Taobao shipment.
  • Qiuwen printouts: Qiuwen's physical printouts will be delivered through China Post's registered mail ("bound printed matter", "印刷品") service. Expect a similar ETA with postcards.
  • Pins and others: Pins and other merchandise will be delivered by the so-called "Sitongyida" (四通一达) delivery companies, the same ones used by most Taobao retailers.

Requirements: Any registered mail through China Post requires your real name and phone number. It is recommended to leave an address of your workplace or school (especially those with a proper mailroom) or somewhere guaranteed to have a reliable delivery. So-called "快递箱" (delivery boxes) are not acceptable addresses for China Post deliveries. Only leave the address of your apartment if you are very confident that it will get properly delivered.

Qiuwen printouts can also be delivered through "Sitongyida" upon request. If your address is not reachable through "Sitongyida," you can also request to have them delivered through China Post.

If you don't want to tell us your real name, you may ask your price to be delivered through "Sitongyida," but they do need your phone number. Postcards can also be delivered to you without a phone number or a real name, as long as the address is mailable to the postman. But be aware that this will result in a very high possibility of your postcard get lost, and we reserve the right to not send you your postcard if you are unable to provide a mailable address.

Shipments with China Post's registered mail and "Sitongyida" will be sent a tracking number once the merchandise was sent.

Recipients in Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan

[edit]
  • Postcards: Postcards will be sent through China Post and delivered by your local postal agency. Expect an estimated delivery time of 1 week to Hong Kong and Macau (when mailed from Beijing) or 4 days (when mailed from Guangdong), as well as an overall 2 week delivery to Taiwan.
  • Qiuwen printouts: Qiuwen's physical printouts will be sent through China Post's "bound printed matter" ("印刷品") and delivered by your local postal agency. Expect a similar ETA with postcards.
  • Pins and others: Pins and other merchandise will be sent through China Post's "small packets" and delivered by your local postal agency. Expect a longer ETA compared with postcards as they will take longer to clear customs.

Note that all shipments to destinations outside mainland China will not be registered, due to a much higher mail registration cost compared to domestic shipments. However, we may decide to register one or two items when much merchandise was sent in bulk to another country/territory to monitor the general shipment progress, and we will keep you updated if a delay in shipment happened. If you would like yours to be the one registered, please specify in your request. Shipments to Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan will not be delivered by air.

Requirements: A mailable address in Chinese (simplified or traditional). Your name and/or phone number is recommended, but not required. We may refuse your request if the address you provided does not appear to be mailable.

You can request a registered mail and/or deliver-by-air addon if you are able to send us CNY 16 worth of Chinese stamps or 3 International Reply Coupons (for registered mail; deliver-by-air addon fee varies). Contact us for more information.

Recipients in other countries/territories

[edit]
  • Postcards: Postcards will be sent by air through China Post and delivered by your local postal agency under the Universal Postal Union. Expect an estimated delivery time of 2 weeks to neighboring countries such as Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore; 4 weeks to the US and Canada; and possibly more to other destinations, especially due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Qiuwen printouts: Qiuwen's physical printouts will be sent by air through China Post's "bound printed matter" and delivered by your local postal agency under the Universal Postal Union. Expect a similar ETA with postcards.
  • Pins and others: Pins and other merchandise will be sent by surface through China Post's "international small packets" and delivered by your local postal agency under the Universal Postal Union. Expect a longer ETA compared with postcards as they will take longer to clear customs.

The ETAs for all options above are somewhat comparable to an eBay or AliExpress delivery from China, as they are sent through similar channels.

Requirements: A mailable address in Latin alphabet. Your name and/or phone number is recommended, but not required. Additional information that may help delivery is welcomed.

You may also request an upgrade from your original prize if you are willing to provide additional postage. Contact us for more information.
