[edit]The Wikimedians of Ethiopia User Group runs several initiatives to empower local communities, foster knowledge-sharing, and create content about Ethiopia on Wikimedia platforms.
Ongoing Programs

[edit]We organize edit-a-thon events where participants gather to create and improve articles related to Ethiopia and its rich history. These events help address content gaps and engage the community in collaborative editing.
- Objective: Improve coverage of Ethiopian topics on Wikipedia.
- Focus Areas: History, culture, languages, contemporary issues.
- Upcoming Event: November 2024 – Ethiopian History Edit-a-thon.
2. TranslateWiki and Content Translation
[edit]To ensure knowledge is accessible to all Ethiopians, we focus on translating important Wikipedia articles into local languages such as Amharic, Oromo, Tigrinya, and Somali.
- Objective: Translate and localize Wikipedia articles in Ethiopian languages.
- Focus Areas: Education, health, governance, and culture.
- Next Translation Sprint: November 2024 – Translating Medical Content into Amharic.
3. Wiki Commons
[edit]Wiki Commons is a repository of free-use images, sound, and other media files. We encourage contributions to this platform to enhance visual documentation of Ethiopian culture and heritage.
- Objective: Collect and share free media files related to Ethiopia.
- Focus Areas: Photography, audio, video related to Ethiopian history and culture.
- Upcoming Contribution Event: December 2024 – Commons Upload Campaign.
4. Wiki Data
[edit]Wiki Data provides a free and open knowledge base that can be read and edited by both humans and machines. We aim to enrich data related to Ethiopia and improve its accessibility.
- Objective: Improve data quality and representation of Ethiopian topics.
- Focus Areas: Structured data, interlinking information.

[edit]Unfortunately, we did not participate in Wiki Loves Monuments this year. However, we look forward to engaging in future opportunities to document cultural heritage sites in Ethiopia.
2. Wiki Loves Africa
[edit]Wiki Loves Africa focuses on sharing images and stories about Africa's diverse culture, wildlife, and communities. It aims to create a rich visual archive of the continent.
- Objective: Raise awareness about African cultures and biodiversity.
- Focus Areas: Wildlife, traditions, local communities.

3. Africa Wiki Challenge

4. Wiki Loves Folklore
