Event Description

WikiForHumanRights Campaign conducted in June 2024, organised by the Wikimedians of Arusha, is an initiative focused on increasing the coverage of human rights and sustainable agricultural topics on Wikimedia projects. Goals

Expand Content Coverage: Increase the representation of sustainable agriculture topics on Wikimedia projects as based on the theme Right to a Health Environment.

  1. Grow and Engage the Community: Engage contributors in activities focused on sustainable agriculture such as creating Wiktionary articles based on agriculture.
  2. Strengthen Capacities: Provide training for documenting sustainable agriculture issues.
  3. Address the Gender Gap: Promote the participation of women in documenting sustainable agriculture.
  4. Build Strategic Partnerships:Collaborate with agricultural organisations and institutions.
  5. Raise Awareness and Promote Inclusiveness:Highlight the importance of sustainable agriculture representation in open knowledge.

Participants

The event attracted over 50 participants, including human rights advocates, educators, and Wikimedia volunteers. Event Outcomes

Content Creation

Over 223 new articles were created on Wiktionary and 382 existing articles were improved.

Community Engagement

The event featured an edit-a-thons, engaging participants in collaborative content creation. 20 new members joined the Wikimedians of Arusha community.

Capacity Building

Participants received training on documenting and sharing sustainable agricultural issues. Educational resources and tutorials on sustainable agriculture documentation were developed and distributed.

Gender Gap Addressing

Special sessions focused on encouraging women’s participation in documenting sustainable agriculture, resulting in a 50% increase in female contributors.

Strategic Partnerships

Joint initiatives with educational institutions integrated sustainable agriculture topics into academic programs.

Awareness and Inclusiveness

Outreach activities raised awareness about the importance of sustainable agriculture representation in open knowledge. Efforts to include underrepresented communities resulted in more diverse and inclusive participation.
