International Women's Day
[edit]On 8 March, International Women's Day, Wikimedia Nederland organised an edit-a-thon together with researcher Laura Braden from the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication, Studium Generale and the Erasmus Centre for Women And Organisations. Around twenty students set out to write as many Wikipedia articles as possible about women. Experienced Wikipedians were present to help them with their first steps on Wikipedia.
Media art on Wikipedia
[edit]On Saturday, March 12, a workshop in the library of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam took place in the framework of the project Media art on Wikipedia. Art History students Angela Gurtsieva and Anastasia Katsman, together with project leader Sanneke Huisman, gave an introduction to media art using several works from the museum's Time Based Media collection. A lot was covered: from the playful media activism of video art pioneer Raúl Marroquín from the 1970s to a contemporary digital musical in a video game environment by artist duo Broersen & Lukács. The students were then given a look behind the scenes of the museum library by Head of the Library Michiel Nijhoff. Afterwards, everyone was informed about the ins and outs of Wikipedia and it was time to choose a media artist to write an article about.
