[edit]Wiki TechStorm October 26-27
[edit]On 26 and 27 October, during the second Wiki Techstorm, beginning and experienced developers worked together on the software technology behind Wikimedia projects. The goal of the Techstorm was to enthuse people to contribute to Wikimedia projects in this way. In the context of reducing the gender gap, the aim was to welcome at least 80% female or non-binary participants.
On 25 October, the unofficial kick-off of the second Wiki Techstorm took place with a visit to the Lower House and the Ridderzaal and an introductory dinner in an old-Dutch pancake restaurant. Subsequently, on 26 October, the 2-day all-inclusive hackathon for women, gender divers persons and men started in the Koninklijke Bibliotheek in The Hague.
Two days full of workshops about Wikimedia projects, programming, apps and scripts. A total of 35 participants and 15 mentors and trainers took part to share knowledge, write scripts, learn programmes and understand bots from early morning (9.00 a.m.) to late evening (10.00 p.m.!). During the final showcase 23 projects were presented while enjoying a piece of Wikidata birthday cake. The participants had 14 different nationalities with participants from among others France, Great Britain, Germany, Turkey, Ukraine.
Wikidata birthday
[edit]Wikidata verjaardag Following the WikiTechstorm, we ate cake in The Hague with the participants of the Techstorm and other interested parties and toasted on Wikidata's birthday.

[edit]GLAM
[edit]GLAM Wiki meeting, 1 October 2018, Tresoar, Leeuwarden
[edit]Until now, relatively few GLAMs from the northern parts of the Netherlands participated in Wikimedia-activities. To remedy this, and to increase awareness of GLAM-Wiki cooperation in general, WMNL organised a GLAM-Wiki meeting at Tresoar, Leeuwarden, on 1 October 2018. Tresoar graciously provided the meeting room and helped communicate the meeting. The meeting was divided in 2 parts: during the first half, Jona Lendering (Livius.org) and Else Gootjes (Erfgoed Gelderland) detailed their ongoing GLAM-Wiki work. Also, Sandra Rientjes introduced the Wikimedia movement and projects in general. During the second part, the GLAMs were asked to complete a small survey to identify suitable collections for upload and to find out how that would fit in their general open data policies. Some 25 people attended from a diverse range of GLAMs from Friesland, Groningen and Drenthe. Presentation by Arne Wossink here.
Writing week Friesland
[edit]From 1 to 14 October, editors were invited to write about nl:Friesland to celebrate that Leeuwarden-Friesland are European Capital of Culture in 2018 (together with Valetta, Malta). In total 44 articles were created or improved by 5 different editors. Project page here.
Wikidata workshop for heritage professionals
[edit]On 12 October, Netwerk Digitaal Erfgoed, Europeana and Wikimedia Nederland organised a Wikidata workshop for the heritage sector. The workshop, which was attended by heritage professionals from all over the Netherlands, provided practical examples of how cultural institutions can raise the quality of their collections to a higher level by linking with Wikidata. Read Europeana's complete blog about the Wikidata workshop.
Libraries - Kick off Wikimedia Introduction workshops at Rozet
[edit]We did not reach the minimum desired number of participants. Probably a course of 6 afternoons is too much for beginners and the entry level was too high. We will now change the format of the workshop (probably from 6 afternoons to 3 afternoons) and in consultation with our partner Rozet we will change the communication so that it is more in line with the interests of the participants. The course is now scheduled for the spring of 2019.
