Photohunts to Azot and Skopje Region
[edit]Azot (Macedonian: Азот) is an historical and geographic region in the Republic of Macedonia located in the south-west of the city of Veles in the valley of Babuna mountain.
Our participant took place on the cycling race Azot MTB Challenge 2016 (Азот МТБ Предизвик 2016), held on 15 May. During the race, he cycled the Great Marathon, that passes through the villages of Crešnevo, Kapinovo, село Nežilovo, Čeplez Mountain Challet, the village of Papradište and the village of Bogomila (the starting and finishing point).
Following the Azot Photohunt, the participant uploaded 24 images of the region, which led to the improvement of 2 articles.

[edit]Toni Ristovski and Mario Šarevski proposed a photohunt in poorly covered places within the Skopje Region. The hunt was performed on bicycles and Jabolci and Govrlevo, but then decided to cover the more mountainous villages. From this idea, it was decided that the photohunts will be a year-long undertaking, performed on a number of occasions. Depending on the available time, the plan is to visit all settlements within the region, especially the rural municipalities such as Sopište, Studeničani Zelenikovo, Čučer Sandevo, with lower priority being given to the better covered municipalities such as Petrovec and Ilinden.
Subsequent to the Skopje Region Photohunt so far, participants uploaded a total of 49 images, which lead to the creation of 16 new articles and improvement of further 10 articles.

Wikimedia CEE Spring 2016
[edit]- Main page: Wikimedia CEE Spring 2016
Wikimedia CEE Spring 2016 was an event organised by Wikimedians and Wikipedians from the region of Central and Eastern Europe with an aim to support article creation about every country in the region on every Wikipedia in the region. The event itself took place from the 21 March to 31 May. Macedonia participated among the various countries with its own topics, and by active editing of articles on other nation's topics on mk.wiki.
In conclusion, Our CEE Project page for more details.
In conclusion of the entire event, Macedonian participants 56 articles on 24 different countries and 10 distinct topics. Best participants won prizes for their work, consisting of books of their own choosing.
Ss Cyril and Methodius Churches Editing Day
[edit]On 24 May we held the editing day called "Churches dedicated to Ss Cyril and Methodius", to mark the national holiday in honour of Saint Cyril and Methodius, the founders of Slavic education and the Cyrillic alphabet. The specific topic was the churches in Macedonia that bear their name and patronage.
Editing Days are a regular feature of our community work, intended for writing articles on a pre-selected underrepresented topic during 24-hour period. Unlike the edit-a-thons, it is not necessary for participants to gather in-person in order to participate in an editing day, which is particularly suitable to those living in geographically remote areas.
There were 5 participants on this editing day, writing a total of 13 articles on churches, 4 of which were improvements of existing articles, and 11 were completely new. For their sources, they used web resources of the various dioceses, as well as books on churches and monasteries in Macedonia.
Integrating GLAM and Community
[edit]Our GLAM and Community co-ordinators (image to the right) work closely together to ensure good use of resources and integrate the programs as much as possible. This is especially the case with the Library of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts (MANU), where our Wikimedian-in-Residence constantly provides us with material relevant to our various Expeditions, as well as source material (mainly books) for our Editing competitions and Edit-a-thons.
The role of the Wikimedian-in-Residence is very important for ensuring the quality of our work. All the terrain work greatly depends on the ability and resources of the Wikimedian-in-Residence in order to fulfill its meaningful purpose of spreading free encyclopedic knowledge.
To that end, we are establishing collaborations with the National and University Library "St. Kliment of Ohrid", the Miladinov Brothers Skopje City Library and the Central Medical Library.
Over 725 pages of material scanned at the MANU Library
[edit]During May, our Wikimedian-in-Residence had a multiple increased workload. Three books, each over 100 pages (725 pages in total) were scanned and provided to the community and Macedonian Wikipedia, out of which one is about the Radoviš region serving as a main scientific source and material for editing articles of the from the previously conducted Wikiexpedition in Lakavica Region (the Radoviš area) in April, and other two are about Climatology and Linguistics. Also Wikimedian-in-Residence at MANU has improved 21 articles not just in Macedonian but also in several other languages such as English, Russian, Bulgarian, Serbian, German, Italian, Ukrainian and created 1 new article.
Institutional meetings
[edit]During May, Shared Knowledge held two meetings with important institutions, as part of our initiatives to enrich projects with additional project outside of the annual plan. To that purpose, we had two meetings with representatives of the National Hydrometeorological Service of the Republic of Macedonia, and the other, with National Agency for European Educational Programmes and Mobility supported by the European Commission.
The first meeting was held in context of the Meteorological Data project, whose goal is to provide archived meteorological data from all meteorological stations in Macedonia that will later be used to enrich the content about the climate of different places in Macedonia. Unlike the articles on places in other countries, most of the articles on the cities in Macedonia lack climate charts and information about the climate. To this end, the National Hydrometeorological Service have agreed to release basic data for various towns, hitherto lacking in articles.
Later in the month, we made a visit to the National Agency for European Educational Programmes, in order to consult with their representative about project and funding possibilities related to Wikimedia activities that will benefit and enlarge our community and serve the aims of their programmes too.
Upcoming projects
[edit]The following are the project that have been organised and agreed upon to take place during the following period.
- 7 June 2016: Systematic recording of chemistry experiments as part of our WikiExperiments project, illustrating laws and phenomena in a documented and educational manner. This was agreed with Prof. Vladimir Petrušеvski at the Chemistry Institute of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University.
- June: National and University Library "St. Kliment of Ohrid"
- June: Wiki Loves Performing Arts - the Second part of this project will involve photo shoot of members of the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as, possibly, recording a performance to be released under a free licence. The shooting of the members of the Macedonian National Theatre has been postponed due to unforseen circumstances in their activities such as late premieres, the death of a director and other unplanned matters. It will take place in the second half of June or during July.
- June: Edit-a-thon at the Union of Mathematicians of Macedonia. We will organise a writing day, engaging young (and old) mathematicians to fill-in the large gaps on this subject in the Macedonian Wikipedia.
- mid-June: Wiki Loves Performing Arts will take place at the Comedy Theatre in Skopje.
- September: Edit-a-thon of the same nature as above, with the Macedonian chapter of the European Medical Students' Association (EMSA), covering various medical topics that address large gaps in that area in the Macedonian Wikipedia.
- June-July: GLAM project at the Archaeological Museum of Macedonia. Museum staff will be trained in creating articles on the collections, objects and periods represented in the Museum. Images of museum objects will be released to illustrate the content in question. Articles are then to be represented by QR-pedia code stickers and visitors will be then encouraged to use them.
