Wikimedia Usergroup Nigeria/Wiki Loves Africa 2015 in Nigeria
Wiki Loves Africa 2015 is a Wikimedia Project, an international photographic competition organized by the WikiAfrica in 2015. The theme of the project is titled "African fashions and adornments", which aimed to improve the coverage of African fashion and adornments on Wikipedia. The project was coordinated by Isla Haddow-Flood and Florence Devouard, the former Chair of the Wikimedia Foundation.
Events
[edit]Nigeria was selected among the 9 focused country in Africa and the local event was organized by the "Wikimedia User Group Nigeria". The local event was organized in three different locations in two different states of Nigeria (Ogun and Lagos State, Nigeria). The maiden edition took place at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, Nigeria on the 3rd of November, 2015. It features the launching of the competition, brief history of the Wikimedia Foundation, Wikimedia Movement, Wikimedia Projects, Wiki Loves Africa, Wiki Loves Monuments, story telling and a special session was dedicated for mass uploading of images to commons. The second edition took place at Goethe Institut, Lagos Nigeria on 12th November, 2015 and the program in Moshood Abiola Polytechnic was replicated at Goethe institute. It features:
- Meetup with Fashion Stake Holders in the country.
- Launching of Wiki Loves Africa 2015 ( Naija Version)
- Workshop on how to upload on common
- Mass Uploading of contents to WikiCommons
Lastly, the third edition took place at Yaba College of Technology in Lagos State southwestern Nigeria on 19th November 2015.
At the event, over 465 images were added to WikiCommons relating to African Fashions and Adornments.
