Wikimedia South Africa Operations Meeting Minutes 23 July 2024

Financial committee payment process requires improvement to make payments quicker and assign funds efficiently.
Updates is provided on successful Wikimedia Botswana bootcamp which was virtual instead of in person. Mention is made on grant funding for Wikimedia Botswana and the fact they may not receive in this round of funding.
Brief update is provided on status of the NYDA project as assigned BM is not on call. Mention is made that the NYDA has engaged with (BS) around implementation. Will require feedback from (MG) in next ops meeting
Update is provided on completion of Phase 1 of the SWiP project 10th university completed. Item which created debate was the inclusion of Afrikaans in the next phase due to impact on new users who experienced issues with edit in the 1st phase.
Eswatini Project in collaboration with University of Eswatini and Unesco is discussed. Mention is made of a successful launch which was well received and funding is discussed.
Special mention is made of Activity around copyright law in South Africa. Letters are being completed for submission to the government.

Action Items: (HJ) to engage with accountants to discuss the possibility of getting a credit card from a different bank is viable.
